Fantasy Football Week 10: The Most Dangerous Weapons in the Fake Game

Chris CortesNov 7, 2011

While each fantasy team has players who will anchor their teams week in and week out, many teams rely on players who may be spotty in their production from week to week.

Here are some of the more dangerous players in the fake game, ones who seemingly come out of nowhere and put up huge numbers.

Wes Welker

1 of 10

Wes Welker is not a wide receiver who will put up major fantasy points every week, but he has the ability to carry your team on any given Sunday.

While he has two games where he did not get over 50 yards (45 versus Dallas, 39 versus Pittsburgh), he has one game over 200 yards, and four over 100 yards.

Welker deserves to start on your fantasy team each and every week and has the potential to be the standout of that team each week.

Mike Wallace

2 of 10

Wallace has four games over 100 yards this season and has proven he can put up big fantasy numbers.

Despite a tough loss to Baltimore this past week, the Steelers are enjoying a good season that features Wallace as a big part of their offense.

Look for Wallace to continue to put up big numbers for fantasy owners.

DeSean Jackson

3 of 10

DeSean Jackson is an electrifying athlete who has the potential to break a game open in the receiving and return game.

However, his scoring has been down this year, and he hasn’t gotten a touchdown in about a month.

It is very tempting to take Jackson out of the lineup of your fantasy team, but Jackson can change your mind with just one return.

Devin Hester

4 of 10

In just a short amount of time, Devin Hester has become one of the best return men of all time.

Because of this, Hester is a high risk/high reward fantasy player.

He is not a focal point of the Bears offense, which makes it tough in fantasy since he’s not targeted.

However, he already has kickoff return and punt return for a touchdown and is a threat any time the ball is kicked toward him.

Tim Tebow

5 of 10

While we’re not sure what Tim Tebow’s career will look like from here on out, there may not be a player who is love and hated more than him.

Last week, Tebow had over 100 yards rushing and receiving with two touchdowns.

As he continues to figure out the quarterback position, Tebow will continue to be inconsistent, but as a dual threat, he can get fantasy owners points on a good week.

A. J. Green

6 of 10

The rookie sensation from Georgia has been a huge part of the Bengals success this season.

A.J. Green has a couple of games with over 100 yards receiving so far this year.

If he can take these breakout performances and make them the norm rather than the exception, Green will be a go-to guy in fantasy.

DeMarco Murray

7 of 10

DeMarco Murray burst on the fantasy a few weeks ago when he put up 252 yards against the St. Louis Rams.

Murray had a nice game against Seattle on Sunday with 139 yards rushing and 44 yards receiving.

If Murray gets his touches with Felix Jones returning, he can continue to be a threat in the running game and a smart play in fantasy.

Willis McGahee

8 of 10

Willis McGahee has had an up and down career in the NFL with many obstacles to overcome.

This year, McGahee has seemed to turn the corner and is having a great season with the Denver Broncos.

He has four games with 100 yards or more, and while he is not a top fantasy running back, he is one that is becoming more consistent and could be a great option for fantasy owners.

Steven Jackson

9 of 10

It doesn’t seem like it was too long ago when Steven Jackson was a top five fantasy pick.

While those days may be done for Jackson, he has put up convincing performances the past two weeks going for 159 yards and 130 yards respectively.

Jackson may not be the fantasy threat he once was, but if you give him a chance, he may surprise you and put up big numbers.

Laurent Robinson

10 of 10

With options like Miles Austin, Dez Bryant and Jason Whitten in the passing game, you would not expect Laurent Robinson to be on this list.

With injuries to Austin and Bryant, Robinson has had the opportunity to put up two games with over 100 yards receiving.

While Robinson may not become a fantasy star, he may become a solid fantasy option with Austin facing yet another injury this season.
