New York Giants: The Best Team in the NFC East, Bar None

Luan MadaniNov 7, 2011

It's not the Cowboys and it's not the Eagles. The New York Giants are the best team in the NFC East, as they proved this past Sunday after they beat the New England Patriots in Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA.

I listen to the radio and I read the articles. Just a week-and-a-half ago, people were saying the Cowboys were still the most dangerous team in the division. They said just give them some time, they'll start clicking, all the while when they had a losing record and the Giants had a 5-2 record. How it's possible, I'll never know.

Philadelphia had good games against division rivals Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys and people started to say here is the dream team and here they come, they're taking this division. Just a few hours ago, they lost to the Chicago Bears.

I'll be the first to say the Giants had a soft schedule in the first half before their bye week. Their toughest teams were the Eagles and the Bills, hardly the pedigree of what Green Bay has faced, whom they face in Week 13. They lost their season opener to the Redskins and dropped another one against the awful Seahawks, but the fact is they still came out of it with a 5-2 record while Dallas and Philadelphia both ended up 3-4 in Week 8.

Now that the Giants have gone and faced the first team in the extremely tough stretch of their remaining schedule, they have a positive swing going into those games against the Packers, Saints, 49ers, Jets and Cowboys.

Am I worried about the Cowboys? No, I'm not. The Redskins, not even close. There's a huge worry for me as a Giants fan about the Packers with the way Rodgers is playing. He's unstoppable and a complete force, but I expect Big Blue to make it a dogfight as they always do.

The Giants are 6-2 atop the NFC East and I see them winning the division. The Eagles have serious problems that I don't think can be remedied any longer, especially with the effort they gave against Chicago, which was a good one, just not good enough.

The Cowboys are just not good, plain and simple. I get tired of people saying they are, because if they were, they wouldn't be .500 right now. Tony Romo is inconsistent, and he just can't finish games when it really counts, something that has already been said time and time again. However, he proves time and time again that he can't, so it's a fair point to repeat.

As for Eli Manning, he's been inconsistent as well. However, down the stretch in the fourth quarter when it counts and when we need him the most, he gets it done. Also, he's having a great season. Jake Ballard has amazed me and makes me forget all about Kevin Boss. He's a better blocker than Boss and can make catches anywhere we need him to, and he gets it done.

Victor Cruz is coming into his own and becoming a very important and integral part of the NYG offense. He's an out-of-this-world athlete and when he figures out not to make the little mistakes young players make, he's going to be one of the greatest receivers the NFL has ever seen.

The Giants pass rush is spot-on, with guys like Jason Pierre-Paul and Justin Tuck getting in the faces of offensive lines and collapsing pockets for quarterbacks on almost every play.

The Giants have their problems, which are with the running backs and corners, in my opinion. The Giants' secondary has been suspect for the past few seasons and while they've done better this season than last, they're still not where they need to be.

Ahmad Bradshaw has proved to be a good, hard-running and reliable back; however, sometimes I feel as if he can give just a little more on a few plays and more big yardage runs can happen more often.

However, when it counts, the Giants get it done and that's why they're atop of the division, standing at 6-2. They have some very tough games ahead of them, of which one or two will surely be a loss; however, if they continue to play tough and turn games into drag-out wars, they'll be able to hang in there with the top teams.
