Penn State Scandal: Why Joe Paterno Will Be out by End of the Week

Ryan RudnanskyNov 8, 2011

Penn State is doing its best to move on as if former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky never were charged with sexual abuse of young boys.

Leading up to Joe Paterno's press conference on Tuesday, the university has already said no questions would be answered about the matter.

However, this isn't exactly the kind of thing that just goes away. Sooner or later, more will be uncovered, more will be analyzed and more dirt will be thrown on Penn State. And Paterno.

While athletic director Tim Curley has been placed on administrative leave and Gary Schultz, the university's senior vice president for finance and business, has retired, Paterno has come out of this untouched so far.

That won't last for long.

Already Paterno is taking heat for his response to Sandusky allegedly sexually assaulting a young boy in one of the facility's locker rooms in 2002. In a statement, Paterno said he told university administrators, but many are blaming Paterno for not going a step further when the issue was apparently swept under the rug.

Penn State can only protect its king for so long. When it comes to serious allegations like this, nobody is spared. Heck, long-time Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel was forced to retire in July because he didn't report his players violating NCAA rules.

Paterno's contract runs out after this season. Some may say he deserves to right to at least finish the season, but Paterno threw away that right when he ignored the situation like everyone else at Penn State.
