Joe Frazier Death: Fans React to Passing of Legendary Fighter

Eric BallNov 7, 2011

Tragedy has struck the boxing world as Joe Frazier has passed away at the age of 67.

He had been battling liver cancer, and been in hospice care for the last week.

Nicknamed “Smokin’ Joe," Frazier was the dominate force in the boxing ring from 1968 to 1973. Over that span he won all 32 of his fights, with 27 of them coming by knockout.

He was best known for his rivalry with Muhammad Ali. The “Thrilla in Manila” is arguably the one of the greatest sporting events ever.

The Twitter world has been reacting to the news with a heavy heart:

I think the impact that Frazier had on the world is evident by the fact a young guy like John Wall pays his respects. The 21-year-old Wizards point guard had this to say:

Even the biggest boxing star of this generation felt the need to pay his respects to the icon. Floyd Mayweather may not be the nicest guy, but he certainly has a certain appreciation for the history of the sport:

Frazier will forever be remembered for his perseverance and incredible work ethic. He is forever etched in boxing history.

The sports world lost an icon Monday night.

R.I.P. Joe.
