Tom Brady Backs Chad Ochocinco Despite Being a Complete Disappointment

Tony SantorsaNov 7, 2011

I know that I have given up on Chad Ochocinco, but when will the time come that Bill Belichick, Tom Brady, Bill O'Brien and the New England Patriots actually give up and move on? I mean, thus far Ochocinco has been a complete puddle.

Despite being a huge disappointment, No. 85 has yet to lose the backing from his quarterback, as Brady reassured that he's been in the right places during the games on WEEI's Dennis and Callahan Show

"

“Yeah, he is [in the right spot]...He certainly is. There’s a lot of things that go into our offense and the timing of it. He and I have only played eight games together, and we talked to each other a lot after the game. Man, it’s frustrating to come off the field and know we’re not making plays we’re capable of making.

"I’m trying to get him the ball and make him part of our offense. That’s what your role is. Really, what I think about is what I need to do better, and there’s plenty of those things. So, me getting caught up with other guys and what they need.

"For me, I need to throw the ball better, I need to make better decisions, I’ve got to make fewer bad plays each game.”

The one thing that I ultimately take from Brady's statement is that it is pretty damn frustrating that Ochocinco is not living up to his potential and that the duo is performing to the best of their abilities.

Through eight games this season, Ochocinco has caught nine passes for 136 yards and has yet to score a touchdown. The once All-Pro wide receiver has been targeted only 21 times while playing a grand total of 181 snaps out of a total of 583 offensive snaps (that's only 31 percent).

All in all, Ochocinco is simply just a waste of a roster spot—that is until he can finally doing what he's capable of doing and actually click with No. 12.

Ochocinco and the Patriots will take a trip down to the Meadowlands to face the New York Jets on Sunday Night Football, a team they previously beat about a month ago, 30-21; in that game Ochocinco had two receptions for 23 yards and has yet to record a single catch since.

Maybe that will all change this Sunday and perhaps Ochocinco and Brady can finally connect on their first touchdown together—I know, that's a stretch.
