Bears vs. Eagles: 5 Adjustments Philadelphia Must Make at Halftime

Aliko CarterNov 7, 2011

The Bears and Eagles are both separated from division titles by less than a year.  They have each had their difficulties through the beginning of the season, but have steadied their respective ships as the NFC playoff race begins to take shape.

They're both showing why they were playoff teams last year. Here are 5 adjustments Philly must make to take this home game against Chicago:

1. Contain Matt Forte

Matt Forte is arguably the best rusher in the NFL, and he's really showing that on the big MNF stage. The Eagles' O-line and secondary have to work harder to contain him and keep those long-yardage rushes to a minimum.

2. Pressure Jay Cutler

In case the Eagles haven't heard, the Bears' offensive line is one of the weakest in the NFL. Though they've been better of late, Philly's defense could be doing a better job of getting Cutler under pressure and forcing him into bad decisions.

3. Pass Defense

The Eagles' corners have to do a better job of keeping the Bears' air attack at bay. Jay Cutler can throw pretty well on the run, so the Eagles will have to rely heavily on their WR coverage as well as their offensive line. There's no reason Earl Bennett should look like an All-Pro receiver right now.

4. LeSean McCoy Needs to Be Better

McCoy has been uninspiring so far tonight. He's the crux of the Philadelphia running game, and he's got to step up in the second half to take some pressure off Michael Vick and the Eagles receivers.

5. No More Interceptions

Just when it looked like the Eagles were on their way to their first score of the night, Major Wright picked off Michael Vick's tipped pass and returned it almost into Philly territory. The Eagles' offensive scheme seems slightly off tonight. They need to tweak it to avoid looking like the bad Eagles team of the first few weeks.
