Manny Pacquiao: Future Bout with Money Mayweather Is Only a Matter of Time

Within the next week, widely regarded pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao takes on the likes of Juan Manuel Marquez, arguably the toughest opponent Pacquiao has faced his entire career (twice).

However, with the clear advantage and win over Marquez in the near future, there is no question the Floyd Mayweather talks get brought back into the picture for Pacquiao and his management.

The previous attempt at a fight was called off, though the controversy and debate as to who in fact called it off still remains a mystery.

According to USA Today, Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum said the fight would be off because "Mayweather walked away"—while Mayweather said "Pacquiao and his team who are denying the people a chance to see the biggest fight ever."

As Pacquiao gains little to nothing from a victory over Marquez, as he has already beat him in the past and has the clear advantage on weight, paper and by the media, the Mayweather fight will ultimately be that one fight Pacquiao will have to take before it's all said and done.

Talk about a fight that people want to see. It was this very fight that was supposed to take place that had the fighters taking home anywhere between $25 and 40 million. It is still a question burning in the heads of the fans and media: Who would win a fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao?

Pacquiao will come out on top of Marquez later this month, and, again, all the media attention will quickly be shifted to a potential Mayweather fight. A win over Mayweather would complete the impressive career of Pacquiao and put him on a different level in the history of the sport.

Make no mistake: with the implications of such a fight, and with Pacquiao's legacy with all the more room to grow, it is not a victory over Marquez that will have an impact on his career—it is a win over Mayweather that will give Pacquiao that extra edge for his career as a whole.
