WWE News: Will Survivor Series Be the Start of a Monster Push for Wade Barrett?

Drake OzNov 8, 2011

WWE.com announced yesterday that a traditional five-on-five match will in fact take place at this year’s Survivor Series.

It will be Randy Orton leading Team Orton against Wade Barrett and Team Barrett.

Joining Orton on his team will be Sheamus, Kofi Kingston, Mason Ryan and Sin Cara, while Barrett will have Christian, Cody Rhodes, Jack Swagger and Hunico on his side.

So, I thought I’d pose a question: Is anyone else surprised that this match is being billed as Team Orton vs. Team Barrett?

Because I sure am—not about the Orton part, but about the Barrett part.

The former leader of Nexus has essentially been buried on the SmackDown roster for most of the year, but all of a sudden, WWE officials seem to be firmly behind him and this “Barrett Uprising.”

I’m not complaining. It’s just that both Christian and Rhodes have played much bigger roles on the blue brand in 2011, and I though for sure that we’d see one of those two men as the captain of their team.

After all, Rhodes is the one who’s been feuding with Orton over the last couple of months, and he seemed to be the next young heel in line for a massive push. But it appears Barrett has jumped Rhodes in the SmackDown pecking order.

That’s fine by me.

I’m a huge supporter of both Rhodes and Barrett because they’ve got just about everything you look for in a heel, so it doesn’t really matter which one is elevated to the World Title scene. In my opinion, they both deserve it.

But it seems like Barrett will get the first opportunity to make that jump to SmackDown’s main-event scene.

The WWE has really been pushing him lately, with wins over Daniel Bryan and the WWE Tag Team Champions, and a huge Survivor Series wins could be the start of an even bigger push for the former NXT Season 1 winner.

Keep your eye on Barrett, folks. He could very well be on his way to superstardom.
