Penn State Scandal: Jerry Sandusky's Continued Presence on Campus Is a Disgrace

The scandal that has engulfed the Penn State campus over the past few days is only getting more disturbing with every detail that is revealed.

In what could be a dramatic turn to give more merit to the possible dismissal of Joe Paterno as head football coach are the allegations that former defensive coordinator and alleged child molester, Jerry Sandusky, was in the PSU weight room just two weeks prior to the news of his arrest.

If this is true, the gross negligence it takes to allow this to happen is something that is inexcusable, and despite my allegiance to the school, should have everyone’s head on the chopping block.

Including Joe Paterno's.

Embattled former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky continued to be a presence around the Penn State football program up to his arrest Saturday on child molestation charges, including working out multiple times in the team’s weight room just last week, according to multiple sources within the football program. The sources, who asked to remain unnamed due to the nature of the scandal, said they saw Sandusky working out in the Lasch Football Building last week. Penn State said it banned Sandusky from bringing children to the football building after a then graduate assistant reported he saw the then 59-year-old coach and a 10-year-old boy in the shower of the football team’s locker room.

My allegiances to the school come from my geological location and the fact that I took classes at Penn State Delco, but this news as well as all the rest, has really strained the love that I had for the storied program.

While I believe that Joe Paterno is the greatest college football coach in history and should be allowed to finish the season, he should be asked to step down after its conclusion.

The school is in need of a major cleaning house of everyone and anyone who saw or knew of these heinous actions, and the only thing that can save the sanctity of the university will be a mega power coach like Urban Meyer coming in and instilling a new leadership group.

With the focus from the police on the criminals and the enablers out the door, Meyer would have the tough task of rebuilding the program and guiding them through this horrible situation.
