NFL Power Rankings Week 10: Looking at Teams Just on Outside of Playoff Picture

Zach KruseNov 7, 2011

These nine teams currently sit outside of the NFL's playoff picture after nine weeks of play:

NFC

Chicago Bears (4-3): A win tonight against the Eagles would push the Bears into the sixth and final playoff spot over the Atlanta Falcons.

Philadelphia Eagles (3-4): After a 1-4 start, the Eagles find themselves back in the playoff hunt with two straight wins. Beating the Bears tonight at home would push the Eagles into the No. 7 spot in the NFC.

Dallas Cowboys (4-4): Realistically, the Cowboys should be 5-3 or 6-2 and holding down a wild card spot. A couple of fourth quarter disasters robbed them of that position, and they're still two full games behind the Giants for the lead in the NFC East.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-4): The Buccaneers are a tough team to figure out this season. One week, they look more like their 2010 self; others, they are no better than a 6-10 team. 8-8 might be their final resting spot, which likely wouldn't be enough to crack the playoff party.

AFC

New York Jets (5-3): The Patriots win tie-breakers over both the Jets and Bills at this point, but some are pointing at New York as the team to beat in the AFC East. A big game looms this weekend when the Pats come to New York.

Buffalo Bills (5-3): After a 3-1 start, the Bill have traded wins and losses for five straight weeks. In an ultra-competitive AFC East, they need to keep pace.

Tennessee Titans (4-4): The AFC South looks like the Texans division to lose, and they currently hold a two game edge in the win column over the Titans. There's time, but a wild card spot might be their only option.

San Diego Chargers (4-4): The Chiefs make the playoff bracket right now based on tiebreakers over both the Chargers and Raiders. The Chargers are little behind the eight ball at this point, especially when you consider that Kansas City swept them already this season.

Oakland Raiders (4-4): Losing to Tim Tebow and the Broncos at home might be a game the Raiders look back on when they're sitting at home during the playoffs again this season. That's a game you really have to win inside the division.
