UPDATE: Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 8:00 a.m. EDT
While Jahvid Best does hope to return at some point this season, it does not look like it will happen in Week 10 against the Chicago Bears.
According to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, Best will meet with doctors later on this week to undergo more tests and see how he is progressing in his recovery from his second concussion of the season.
"Detroit Lions running back Jahvid Best is unlikely to play against the Chicago Bears on Sunday as he continues to recover from his most recent concussion, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
"
Considering that Best has had concussion problems throughout his career, the team will be extra careful with him before allowing him to play.
But will he be returning this coming Sunday against the Chicago Bears?
"“I have no idea,” Best said before an autograph signing to open the Dick’s Sporting Goods store Saturday in Canton. “If this wasn’t our bye week I’d probably have a better idea, but right now everybody’s gone and everybody’s doing their own thing, so I have no idea.”
"
Best has not been cleared to return to the field yet, and he has missed the last two games in addition to taking time to recover during this bye week.
"“I’m doing fine, I feel fine,” Best said. “It’s just a matter when we all get down and sit together how everything plays out. So it’s still kind of week to week.”
"
He wants to return to the field as soon as possible, and it should definitely be at some point during the second half of the season.
Best is known for suffering one of the worst concussions ever during his time at Cal. His time at the school was cut short by an Oregon State defender who launched him into the air and saw him land on his head from a high distance.
That is why this latest concussion is so concerning, and many people had doubts going into the season that he would be able to handle a full workload after promising rookie Mikel Leshoure went on the IR list with a torn Achilles.
Maurice Morris and Keiland Williams will continue to shoulder the load in Best’s absence, and they are must-adds if you are a Best owner at this point.
Keep it tuned here throughout the week to find out the latest breaking news for Jahvid Best and his Week 10 status.
