WWE Survivor Series 2011: The Miz & R-Truth Are Wrong Rivals for Rock and Cena

Adam WellsNov 7, 2011

Among the WWE's Big Four pay-per-view events, Survivor Series has always been given the short stick, with weak main events and nothing to really get excited about.

That will change this year with The Rock making his return to the ring, teaming up with John Cena

That pairing alone should be good enough to make this the biggest Survivor Series in years, but something seems to be killing interest in the match.

That something is the opposing team: Miz and R-Truth.

While there are a lot of reasons for "Awesome Truth" being the wrong team at the wrong time, the biggest is the way that they have been booked on television.

Last week, for example, Cena took on Miz in a "WrestleMania Rematch." It was a great opportunity for Miz and Truth to beat down Cena and prove that he could not take on this duo by himself. That would justify him selecting The Rock as his tag team partner instead of just randomly throwing them in a match to pop a buy rate.

Instead, Cena made Miz tap in the middle of the ring with the STF. Truth, who was dressed up as the character from the "Scream" movies, tried to blindside Cena, but got taken out with the Attitude Adjustment.

So, Cena, who made a point of picking someone not on the active roster because these dastardly heels have gotten the best of him, took out both Miz and Truth in a span of 30 seconds.

What does it do for Rock and Cena if/when they defeat Miz and Truth? Nothing.

What does it do for Miz and Truth if they defeat Rock and Cena? Okay, you can stop laughing now, because we know that is not going to happen, unless there is some sort of screwjob finish. That would make them look even worse.

Perhaps things will change over the next two weeks on Raw and somehow, some way, the creative team will come up with a way to make Miz and Truth look like a threat to the powerful Cena to justify bringing Rock back four months early.

Considering that Vince McMahon has known this match was going to happen months in advance and still did nothing to help Miz and Truth look strong, I sincerely doubt anything will change.

As a result, Rock's return match will mean nothing for story lines and the buy rate will be much lower than it should be.
