Week 10 Waiver Wire: Scouting the Best Available Players

Zach KruseNov 7, 2011

It is possible that a potential waiver wire addition might come from Monday night's game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears, but let's run down the best of the best for Week 10's waiver wire with what we know from Sunday.

Reggie Bush, Miami Dolphins

He's owned in a lot of leagues because of name recognition only, but Bush is someone you might want to add if still available. While the touches have been there all season, Bush is now starting to convert those opportunities into fantasy points. Over the last two weeks, Bush has 195 yards rushing with a score and another 67 receiving. Say what you want about Bush as a player, but the production has been there recently.

Roy Helu, Washington Redskins

Mike Shanahan spun the running back wheel at the last moment on Sunday, as he removed Ryan Torain from that position and put the rookie Helu as the starter. I've been harping over the past few weeks that a development of this sort could be coming.

Helu didn't do much on the ground (41 yards on 10 carries), but he did break a franchise record for receptions with 14 against the 49ers. That performance should grant him another week or two of starting, so don't be afraid to roll the dice with Helu in the coming weeks on the waiver wire.

Donald Brown, Indianapolis Colts

The Colts are horrendous on offense, but it looks like, for now, that Brown will be the guy that sees the most carries while Joseph Addai is on the shelf. Brown carried the ball 16 times for 70 yards against the Falcons after scoring a touchdown in the Colts' Week 8 loss to the Titans. It's a desperation move at running back, but that's about the best you can ask for at the position this late in the game.

Torrey Smith, Baltimore Ravens

Everybody loves a good redemption story, and that's exactly what Smith was on Sunday night in Pittsburgh. After dropping several passes—including a perfectly thrown pass in the end zone on the same drive—Smith held on to Joe Flacco's late heave for the game-winner. Overall, Smith caught five balls for 71 yards and the score. He's hit and miss (Sunday's touchdown was his first since Week 3), but it's obvious that the Ravens are confident in giving him chances in the offense.

Steve Breaston, Kansas City Chiefs

The last two weeks are a good example of overreacting to the potential of a rookie receiver. Jon Baldwin caught a touchdown in Week 8 against the Chargers and looked like he could be a solid waiver wire addition this week against the Dolphins. That wasn't the case, as Baldwin had just one catch for 12 yards.

His teammate, however, proved to be the much better waiver wire choice. Breaston caught seven passes for 115 yards against Miami, continuing a run of six of seven games above 50 yards receiving. There's a level of consistency here with Breaston that makes him a nice pickup in Week 10.
