New Striker for Chelsea or Not?
Despite Didier Drogba’s return from both injury and suspension and Chelsea’s insistence that there’ll be no money made available for Scolari in January, rumours linking us with strikers show no signs of dying down.
With Drogba barely getting as far as the bench so far this season and Kalou doing nothing of note, Scolari’s had to rely on Anelka for the most part. Clearly if Anelka had been injured we’d have been in some serious trouble, so it’s not that surprising we’ve been linked with everyone from Michael Owen to Thierry Henry already.
So who’s next on the list?
Well, it could be Zaki according to the latest rumours although Steve Bruce is adamant this isn’t the case, insisting "It is Chelsea this week, Real Madrid last week, Liverpool the week before, Manchester City before that. I think the whole thing needs to be addressed really. He is ours for the rest of the season."
Far more amusing though was Gareth Southgate’s reaction to the rumours that Turkish international striker Tuncay could be heading to Stamford Bridge for £8million. Because with slightly less feet stamping and a little more humour, he suggests "I was quite amused at the figure they put on his head because the club that were linked pay double that for full-backs".
That’ll be another no then?
