Manny Pacquiao: Juan Manuel Marquez Will Get Brunt of Mayweather Frustration

Andrew KulhaNov 7, 2011

One cannot help but feel bad for Jan Manuel Marquez in his upcoming bout with boxing legend Manny Pacquiao.

Marquez's fight may be with Pacquiao, but I have a feeling Pacquiao may have a bit more on his mind during this fight, and it may just give him an even bigger advantage.

There is no doubt that if you were to put the two fighters side-by-side and ask which one would win the fight off talent alone, Pacquiao would be the clear-cut favorite.

That's why a motivated and potentially upset Pacquiao is a very scary thought for those in the Marquez corner.

Not only is Pacquiao looking to redeem his past two fights with Marquez, where Juan Manuel has openly stated that he won, but he has to certainly be frustrated with the recent antics by Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Mayweather apparently called Pacquiao out, according to ESPN.

"

On Wednesday night, Leonard Ellerbe, one of Mayweather's advisers, told ESPN.com that Mayweather had decided to return to the ring May 5 and that they had put the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on hold.

"We're looking to make the biggest fight possible and everyone knows what that fight is, the little fella," said Ellerbe, who was talking about Pacquiao.

"

This has been a fight that has been highly anticipated, but has never happened.

Both fighters have strayed way from it at different times, but everybody seems to agree that it would be the fight of the century.

News has come out that Pacquiao wasn't the "little fella" that Mayweather was thinking of though, according to Chris LaBate of BoxingScene.com

"

According to Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum, WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. is attempting to close a deal to face Erik Morales, the WBC champion 140 pounds, on May 5th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

A few days ago, Mayweather's adviser, Leonard Ellerbe, said Mayweather was planning to return on May 5th of next year, and they already had the MGM Grand on hold. Ellerbe said Mayweather was looking to fight the "little fella," but Arum says the little fella is not WBO champion Manny Pacquiao, but Erik Morales of Mexico.

“You know who the little fellow that they already approached? It’s Erik Morales,” Arum told the Manila Bulletin. “And Erik will confirm it—absolutely. Erik has been approached to make the fight. He’ll take it for the money. I’m sure he’ll take it for the money. Why wouldn’t he?"

"

So apparently Pacquiao got duped, as did the rest of the boxing world, and of course Mayweather was behind it all.

To come back full circle, I feel bad for Marquez.

Not only does he have to fight Pacquiao, but I can only imagine that Pacquiao is a bit frustrated and agitated about the fact that Mayweather drew him into this mess and out of focus for his fight.

Pacquiao has to be frustrated, but thankfully for him he's got an avenue to vent his frustrations:

Juan Manuel Marquez's face.
