BCS Rankings: Stanford and Teams That Got Cheated in Latest Standings
The BCS might as well stand for Blundering Cheated Schools.
In every other athletic league, overall record gets the final say in the regular season, but not in college football. Even when strength of schedule is added to the equation, though, the BCS still can’t get it right. Here are four teams that were cheated in the latest BCS rankings.
4. Houston
The Cougars are undefeated. For those who have forgotten what the term “undefeated” means, Houston is perfect in 2011.
They deserve to be ranked higher than No. 11. Sure, the competition they’ve defeated hasn’t been top-notch, but Clemson and Virginia Tech have no business being ranked ahead of the Cougars.
3. Oregon
Oregon is the only team on this list that has one loss and this is where the BCS strength of schedule can’t even work right.
The Ducks lost to No. 1 LSU, one-loss Oklahoma lost to unranked Texas Tech and Oregon is behind the Sooners in the standings. Someone outside the state of Oklahoma, tell me how this makes sense. A 13-point loss to the Tigers is more respectable than a three-pointer to the Red Raiders.
2. Boise State
Boise State fans are all too used to their team being on lists like this.
The Broncos are undefeated (perfect) and are still ranked behind one-loss Alabama. Yeah, the Crimson Tide only lost to LSU and it was by three in overtime, but a defeat is a defeat. Boise State’s national title hopes are now slim to none…even though they’re perfect.
1. Stanford
Somehow, someway, Stanford is ranked No. 4 behind Alabama. The Cardinal are undefeated and they play, not in some patty-cake conference, but in the Pac-12. A win over Oregon should be able to catapult them past the Crimson Tide, but who knows with the BCS?
