College Basketball Preview: One Word to Describe Every ACC Basketball Arena

Fans in the Atlantic Coast Conference are some of the rowdiest in the nation. The Cameron Crazies, Screamin' Deacons and "The Wall" all give ACC basketball a unique flavor.

Do you need a guide on where to watch the best basketball games? Or do you need a vocab lesson to help you beef up for the GRE test?

Never fear, you've come to the right place. 

Here's a description for each arena and their fan base to help you get prepared for college basketball and college placement tests. 

Boston College: Conte Forum

Tendentious: biased; showing marked tendencies

The Eagles basketball team always puts on a good show. Except, their hockey playing roommates are much, much better (as in three national championships in the past 10years better). 

Clemson: Littlejon Coliseum

Gregarious: sociable; outgoing; enjoying the company of other people

The Tigers love their Littlejon Coliseum. They're happy to have opponents come visit them due to the fact that they have won nearly 75 percent of their games there since the arena opened in 2003. 

Duke: Cameron Indoor Stadium

Minatory: menacing, threatening

This one is pretty self explanatory. The Cameron Crazies make playing in Durham a nightmare for visiting teams. 

Florida State: Donald L. Tucker Center

Sanguine: cheerful, confident, optimistic

'Noles fans are excited. Florida State finished third in the conference last year. They have a good chance to repeat in the upper echelon of the ACC once again

Georgia Tech: The Alexander Memorial Coliseum (aka the Thrillerdome)

Inveterate: deep rooted, ingrained, habitual

Even though the AMC arena is getting a renovation and a rename this season, the Thrillerdome will always be considered home to Jackets fans.

Maryland: Comcast Center

Plangent: thundering; pounding; resounding

There may have been some shocked silence in College Park after Gary Williams announced his retirement.

Don't expect it to last long. Terps fans are some of the loudest in the nation.

Miami (FL): BankUnited Center

Zealous: fervent; ardent; impassioned, devoted to a cause

BankUnited Center is the smallest arena in the ACC. With 'Canes football on the ropes, basketball fans will be looking forward to seeing what new coach Jim Larranaga can do.

North Carolina: Dean Smith Center

Inimitable: One of a kind; peerless.

There has always been a bit of a controversy over the lack of an official student section in Chapel Hill. 

However, you can not deny the history that is dripping from the rafters of the Smith Center. Copious amounts of legends and legendary moments were made here. 

North Carolina State: RBC Center

Ingenuous: artless; frank and candid; lacking in sophistication

This isn't a knock against Wolfpack fans, who are among the most loyal in the ACC. It's a fine arena to watch a game, but the RBC Center does not have much in the way of charm.

Virginia: John Paul Jones Arena (aka JPJ)

Redoubtable: awe-inspiring; worthy of honor

UVA's campus has a refined sense of design due to many of the buildings having characteristics of Jeffersonian architecture. 

Fans hope Mike Scott can be an inspiration on the court.

Virginia Tech: Cassell Coliseum

Austere: Without adornment; bare; severely simple.

Tech basketball has always played second fiddle to football. The Hokies have never won a conference title. 

Wake Forest: LJVM Coliseum (aka the Joel)

Obstreperous: Noisily and stubbornly defiant, aggressively boisterous.

The Demon Deacons went 1-15 in conference play last season. Even so, the Screamin' Deacons will keep the Joel rocking this season.
