College Football Predictions Week 11: Who's Primed To Move Up BCS Rankings?

Tom PerryNov 6, 2011

It's getting to that time of the season when moving up the BCS standings is much harder than it is to move down.

This week, we get Oregon at Stanford and if the Cardinal want to challenge for a spot in the BCS championship game, then Andrew Luck has to lead his team to a big win over their nemesis.

Also, following No. 1 LSU's 9-6 victory at Alabama Saturday, the SEC has all kinds of potential now to move up and down this coming week.

With the latest BCS rankings unveiled Sunday night, we saw how teams were shuffled around a bit. Can we expect more of the same this week?

Here are a few teams that you should be looking at to make a move after this week's action.

Virginia Tech

1 of 6

Virginia Tech cracked the top 10 this week, and with a huge showdown at Georgia Tech, the Hokies should move up a spot or two with a win.

Clemson learned how tough it is to go to Atlanta and win, so nothing is guaranteed here on Thursday night.

Another thing standing in the way is Clemson, who is No. 9 in the rankings. And since the Tigers defeated Virginia Tech, it might be tough to jump Clemson.

Oh well, it's a great way to get the weekend started.

Penn State

2 of 6

Penn State's players and coaches have enough to distract them right now, but the Nittany Lions need to focus on Nebraska.

You just never know what Cornhuskers team you're going to get, though.

Nebraska looked like it figured things out after the great second half with Ohio State, but then, Bo Pelini's team blew a home game with Northwestern.

Even at 8-1, the Nittany Lions are not getting a ton of national respect. Beat Nebraska in Happy Valley and more people will take notice.

Cincinnati

3 of 6

If West Virginia hadn't gone off and lost another game that it was favored to win, then this week's game with Cincinnati would have likely been for the Big East championship.

It likely will still decide the championship, but the Bearcats are the only contender.

Cincinnati is 7-1 but only ranked 23rd in the BCS.

So even a win over a three-loss WVU should help the Bearcats' cause.

Oregon

4 of 6

If Stanford wins, the Cardinal should move up at least one spot above Alabama.

But if No. 7 Oregon pulls out a win in Palo Alto, California, the Ducks can actually start dreaming of playing for a BCS Championship again.

Chip Kelly's team would still need a few breaks and a win in the Pac-12 championship game, but that season-opening loss to LSU is starting to fade in everyone's memory.

Big problem, though.

Does anyone really want to see a rematch at a neutral site again?

Boise State

5 of 6

This is Boise State's big week.

If the Broncos take care of TCU, the last serious opponent they play won't be enough to move up in the rankings.

But if Boise gets an Oregon win over Stanford, then Chris Petersen's team should get to No. 4.

Georgia

6 of 6

Mark Richt has put the hot seat talk behind him, and now, Georgia is in the driver's seat to win the SEC East.

The Bulldogs get a tough one with Auburn this week, but the game is in Athens, and you have to like the way Georgia's defense is playing now.

Let Aaron Murray and the Georgia offense do its thing, and the Bulldogs should move up from No. 15.
