Bowl Projections: Boise State vs. Alabama Is Dream Sugar Bowl Matchup
Boise State is going to run the table and get held out of the National Championship. Their lack of formidable opponents has them being written off once again, but a matchup between Boise State and Alabama would make for a dream matchup in the Sugar Bowl that would let us all know once and for all where Boise State ranks amongst the elite teams in the country.
Many people want to see an Alabama vs. LSU rematch. While it is a fantastic SEC clash, we've seen it already. Should Oklahoma State and/or Stanford run the table, they'll earn the right to join LSU in the National Championship.
We saw Boise State and TCU square off in the Fiesta Bowl in the 2009-2010 season, but naysayers still weren't impressed, saying Boise State couldn't hang with the cream of the crop SEC schools.
Having the Broncos take on the Crimson Tide is a battle between two highly-talented teams with a very different makeup. Alabama is the classic SEC juggernaut with an impenetrable defense and NFL-caliber talent littering both sides of the ball.
Boise State being undefeated and Alabama pushing LSU to overtime would make this matchup just as highly anticipated as the National Championship.
It's Kellen Moore's senior year at Boise State and though he has no shot at a BCS Title berth, this would suffice as the perfect consolation prize.
This would be Alabama's opportunity to shut up Boise State and their whining fan base once and for all as well, not just for themselves, but for every major conference in America. Those who constantly gripe about the lack of playoffs in college football would have trouble making their case if no undefeated teams remained at the end of the season aside from the team who took it all and Boise State was blown away by Alabama.
Then again, a Boise State victory would do wonders for those advocating for a playoff system. This game needs to be played not just because it's a great matchup, but because it will put a classic debate to rest.
