Manny Pacquiao: Marquez Will Further Pac-Man's Legacy as All Time Greatest
There are so many great fighters across so many weight classes that pin-pointing one boxer as the greatest of all time is difficult to accomplish.
What we can do is break it down by weight class, and Manny Pacquiao is already the best his division has ever seen.
That includes all-time legends like Sugar Ray Robinson and Leonard, Oscar de La Hoya and many other great former champions. But what Pac-Man does for boxing is something that the others didn’t have to do.
While those other fighters had a fantastic heavyweight division to help draw in fans, Manny Pacquiao has almost single handedly kept boxing relevant in the mainstream.
There used to be boxing gyms in every neighborhood overflowing with kids trying to make their name but other sports have taken a hold of the youth and the pain vs. reward isn’t good enough for young people anymore.
The lack of a heavyweight division has made even the most devoted of boxing fans turn away from the sport. The outlandish PPV prices and jaded memories of 30-second Tyson fights has everyone wary of buying a show.
No one is wary of buying a Manny Pacquiao PPV.
Manny is a people’s fighter and the fact that he is widely loved by boxing fans and non-fans means he will be remembered after his reign in the ring is over.
Not only is he the best in his division, he is the best in the world right now in any division. The longer he stays at this level, the higher he climbs the ladder towards the mantle of the Greatest of All Time.
Pac-Man’s already pretty high.
