2011 Breeders Cup Results: Drosselmeyer and Contenders for 2012 Kentucky Derby
The 2011 Breeders’ Cup was an exciting race, but as almost every horse race ever run, it was a complete crapshoot.
While the shocker of the day goes to Drosselmeyer, the whole Top 3 were underdogs and the complete turnover of expectations just made the race that much more enjoyable.
The hype for the 2012 Kentucky Derby is already growing, and the results of the Breeders’ Cup only adds to that excitement.
Drosselmeyer
The winner of the 2011 Breeders’ Cup was the definition of under the radar, but his performance in one of the biggest races in the year makes him an easy start for the biggest race of the year.
The Kentucky Derby will be the grand showcase to bring Drosselmeyer to the forefront of horse racing and legitimize him as a serious Triple Crown contender.
Game on Dude
While Game on Dude came into this year’s Breeders’ Cup as a long shot, his second place finish makes him a likely competitor in next season’s Kentucky Derby.
With a strong showing at the Breeders’ Cup at Churchill Downs, it will be an easy transition to return to the same track less than a year from now and do it again.
Ruler on Ice
Ruler on Ice is one of the best horses that raced on Saturday, and he has a long life of big races ahead of him. With a third place finish at the Breeders’ Cup, Ruler On Ice will be a contender in the Kentucky Derby if he stays healthy.
Ruler on Ice has a history of coming up short on the 1.25 mile tracks, but another several months of training should build his stamina.
