Ryan Mathews Injury: Should Fantasy Owners Start or Sit Chargers RB?
The San Diego Chargers liked running back Ryan Mathews enough to make a move up the draft to select him.
Coming out of Fresno State, Mathews was considered one of the top running back prospects. He was expected to come off the board towards the end of the first round or early in the second round.
However, the Chargers didn't want to risk not landing Mathews and traded up to select their running back of the future.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Mathews career is still in the early stages, but there is some cause for concern. There have been plenty of flashes of brilliance, but that has been overshadowed by a string of injuries. Mathews seems to be always dealing with a nagging injury.
NFL running backs take a pounding and are constantly dealing with sore muscles. The best NFL running backs have the ability to produce despite injuries. It is very hard to be productive if you are constantly in and out of the lineup.
Fantasy owners are very aware of Ryan Mathews' injury history. His fantasy value has decreased each week because he is not a reliable option.
At this point, Mathews is always just one play away from being forced out of the game.
In the past few weeks I've watched more than a few Chargers games, and I immediately noticed the slim build of Ryan Mathews. I was surprised at the lack of lower-half bulk, which has no doubt contributed to his struggles staying healthy.
Another concern is Mathews' upright running style.
He runs straight up and down, exposing his body to big hits. This has also contributed to the mounting injury concerns.
At this point, Mathews needs to prove he is capable of remaining healthy. Until he is able to avoid missing time, Mathews is a questionable fantasy football starter.
