Fantasy Football Week 9 Injury Report: Ahmad Bradshaw and Star RBs to Bench

Nicholas GossNov 6, 2011

Ahmad Bradshaw, Darren McFadden, BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Peyton Hillis and Ryan Mathews are five of the many running backs who are battling injuries today and do not deserve a spot on your fantasy football team's starting roster.

Running backs often take the most punishment on game day and it's not surprising to see so many of them battling injuries in Week 9 of the NFL season.

Let's look at five running backs who are battling injuries this week and are not worth the risk of starting.

Injury information from here.

1. Ahmad Bradshaw

The New York Giants running back has a cracked bone in his foot and is doubtful to play against the Patriots.

The Patriots defense is ranked 32nd against the pass, so even if Bradshaw was healthy, the Giants were probably going to throw the ball a lot anyway.

Not many people end up playing when listed as doubtful, and even if Bradshaw plays, he won't be involved too much.

Bench him this week for sure.

2. Ryan Mathews

Ryan Mathews did not participate in practice drills this week for the San Diego Chargers, and against the Green Bay Packers this week, he has a bad matchup.

The Packers defense is very good, and even if he was healthy, it would be a risky start. Even if Mathews plays, expect the Chargers to lean heavily on Mike Tolbert to carry the rushing load in Week 9.

3. Daniel Thomas

It's too bad that Miami Dolphins' running back Daniel Thomas is hurt because the bad Chiefs defense this week would have been a perfect matchup for him.

He is listed as questionable for Sunday's game, and with Reggie Bush racking up 103 rushing yards last week, it seems that he will be the featured back today.

There's no need to rush Thomas back from injury when Bush is doing well and facing a poor run defense.

4. Joseph Addai

The Indianapolis Colts have not been able to play well offensively this season, and Joseph Addai has battled injuries all year.

Addai did not practice on Friday and is questionable against the Atlanta Falcons. Addai's inconsistent play on the field, as well as numerous injury problems, make him a good person to bench today.

5. BenJarvus Green-Ellis

BenJarvus Green-Ellis is questionable for the Patriots today against the Giants with a toe injury. The Giants have an excellent defense, so the matchup was not a good one to begin with for Green-Ellis.

Even if he does play, Green-Ellis' workload may be limited, and backup running back Danny Woodhead may see more carries than normal this week.
