Week 9 Fantasy Football Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Matt Forte and RBs Who Are PPR Gold

Mike ChiariNov 6, 2011

While PPR leagues tend to increase the value of wide receivers and tight ends more than anything, certainly running backs also get a major boost from that format. Many running backs are heavily involved in their respective team's passing games.

Such backs are invaluable in PPR leagues as they can give you a major boost. Here are three running backs who will be PPR gold this week, and will go a long way to leading your team to victory.

LeSean McCoy, Philadelphia Eagles

As incredibly well as Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy has run the ball this season with 754 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, his true value comes from his ability to reel in receptions out of the backfield.

While he hasn't been as good in that regard this season as he was last year with 23 grabs, McCoy is perfectly capable of making seven or eight catches in a given game.

McCoy may get that opportunity of Monday night against the Chicago Bears. The Bears are aggressive in terms of their pass rush and will likely try to contain Eagles quarterback Michael Vick. This will force Vick to make quick decisions, so McCoy could be a great safety valve for him.

Unlike some receiving backs, McCoy also has the ability to go the distance when he catches a pass, so he could have a huge week.

Matt Forte, Chicago Bears

I think it's safe to say that no non-quarterback in the NFL is more important to their offense than Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte. Not only does Forte have 672 rushing yards, but he also leads the team with 38 catches for 419 yards.

With as bad as Chicago's offensive line is, quarterback Jay Cutler rarely has time to get the ball down the field, so Forte benefits.

Chicago's offensive line will almost certainly be an issue on Monday night as it will have to block the Philadelphia Eagles. Trent Cole and Jason Babin are a nightmarish pass rushing tandem, even for competent offensive lines.

With that in mind, Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz will surely draw up plenty of screens for Forte, and Cutler will try to get him the ball while he is running for dear life.

Fred Jackson, Buffalo Bills

Buffalo Bills running back Fred Jackson has been a reliable back for the past couple seasons, but he has truly come into his own this year.

Jackson has been one of the biggest reasons for the 5-2 Bills turnaround, and he is second in the league to Matt Forte in yards from scrimmage. Most of that has been on the ground, but he also has 27 catches for 353 yards.

Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick loves to spread the ball around, and he certainly doesn't forget about Jackson. Not only will Jackson be run ragged against the New York Jets' porous run defense, but he also figures to be involved in the passing games.

Few teams blitz as often as the Jets, and because of that, they will be susceptible to Jackson taking short passes a long way.
