BCS Rankings: Loser of Epic LSU and Alabama Matchup Won't Get Another Shot
Many believe that this epic matchup between No. 1 LSU and No. 2 Alabama is one of the greatest games of the century.
While I do feel that is somewhat of an overstatement, there is no doubting the importance of this game.
There is so much surrounding it aside from the hype, with the biggest prize being a clear shot to the national championship.
Whenever No. 1 and No. 2 meet up all the talk revolves around the two teams meeting back up in the national championship, especially this year with the SEC being the most dominant conference and these two teams being the class of the SEC.
That being said, personally I don't think the loser will have another shot.
It all comes down to one team really, and that's the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
The Cowboys came into tonight's matchup with the Kansas State Wildcats ranked No. 3 in the nation and boasting an undefeated 8-0 record.
While the fate of that game is still undecided, as well as the fate of LSU and Alabama, the fact remains that if the Cowboys win, they will be odds on favorites to meet up with the winner of this epic showdown in Tuscaloosa.
A win would propel them to 9-0, with only one more challenge facing them in Oklahoma, who just lost Ryan Broyles for the season.
Without Broyles, the Sooners have no shot at keeping up with the Cowboys and the Big 12 and an undefeated season is essentially in the works.
That means that even though many people see this game between LSU and Alabama as the prequel to the national championship, Oklahoma State would actually be the rightful owner of that second spot.
There is still a ton left up in the air, but when all is said and done I feel the loser of the Alabama and LSU game will lose a lot more than a huge SEC game.
They will lose their shot at the BCS championship.
