Auburn Hires Gene Chizik to be New Football Head Coach
In a move as stupid as the firing of Tommy Tubberville, Auburn is naming Gene Chizik to be new football coach at Auburn. Chizik is a former Auburn defensive coordinator from 2002-04.
Upon leaving Auburn after 2004 he was defensive coordinator for Texas for 2005-06, then he was hired to be the head football coach of Iowa State where he has since amassed an amazing record of 5-19 in two seasons.
The only thing Jay Jacobs could possibly have done to have screwed up Auburn's football program was to have found another coach that wins an average less than three wins a season, although few of those were to be found.
Suddenly this move takes Tennessee off the map for the dumbest hire of the year. This move makes the Vols hire of Kiffin look like the next Lombardi hire.
This year Chiznick managed to open the season with two wins over South Dakota State from the Missouri Valley Conference and Kent State who finished next to last in the MAC conference. Following that he lost the last ten games in a row.
He was such a hot coaching talent that few high schools across the U.S. would dare entertain the notion of hiring him to head their program.
I know Chizik is thinking, "Thank God for the stupidity of Auburn. I don't know where I could have gone after getting fired from Iowa State."
Since Chizik has no bowl game to prepare for, just like Auburn, he will hit the ground running and start forming a coaching staff and start recruiting. Maybe he could bring over some of his own coaches who won not a single game in their own conference.
This is exactly why Auburn football will always be 'all burned" football. Jay Jacobs allowed Bobby Lowder to strong arm him into running off the best coach they've had in years to get the services of this young hack who can't win a game in his own conference this year.
And what are the Iowa State boards saying about Auburn stealing their coach? Typical are the comments like, "He coudn't recruit well, his coaching decisions were laughable and his record is the worst in Iowa State history."
Then there is, "According to multiple reports, Gene Chizik will be Auburn's next head coach. No, really, they actually hired him. While it's bad news for Iowa State that its here today and gone tomorrow head coach of the past two seasons was a titanic failure and colossal bust, it's good news that the decision makers at Auburn can't count and have unburdened Iowa State of its most unprepared, over-matched and incompetent head coach of the modern era."
Just when you thought things couldn't get worse at Auburn, there's always Bobby Lowder pulling the strings to prove it can.
