Manny Pacquiao: Loss to Marquez Will End All Talks of Mayweather Fight
For years now, the boxing world has been dying to see Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. step in the ring together.
For years we have all dealt with the back and forth arguing and nonsense in attempts to set up a fight.
We have yet to see it happen.
Mayweather's camp and fans claim that the fight would happen if Pacquiao would quit shying away from Olympic-style drug testing before the fight.
Pacquiao's camp and fans say that it's bogus, and that Mayweather is simply afraid of Pacquiao and knows stepping in the ring will end his undefeated run.
It's these same arguments that have kept the two out of the ring for years.
However, it appears that we are now closer than ever to seeing that fight happen.
Pacquiao and promoter Bob Arum have pushed that argument to the side.
Arum has come out and said that Pacquiao is more than willing to do the testing.
"Let me put it in the clearest terms possible. We're willing to agree to Olympic drug testing without any conditions. We're ready to make the fight—assuming Manny wins this one—without any conditions."
The part of the quote that sticks out to me has nothing to do with drug testing.
It's the assumption that Manny wins against Juan Manuel Marquez.
Everybody is making this assumption and the fight is still a week away. We can't forget that Marquez is the toughest opponent that Pacquiao has ever faced.
The two have fought twice before. The one fight ended in a split decision and the other a draw. Marquez isn't going to lay down Pacquiao.
So what if Marquez wins?
If he does, then I wouldn't be surprised if the fight with Mayweather never happens.
It will just be a new excuse for the Mayweather camp in order to get out of the fight.
I can see it now.
Pacquiao couldn't beat Marquez, so why in the world do you think he'd have a shot against Mayweather?
