Jabot SingleterryDec 13, 2008

You read right, The Madman from Sudan is going to retire. The man that was born Lawrence Robert Shreve became known to us as Abdullah the Butcher. First off, the man isn't from Sudan, he actually grew up in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Abby made his debut at age 22 in 1958 standing at 6'1" and weighing in at 360 pounds.

Abdullah the Butcher first distinguished himself as one of the world’s most feared rulebreakers when he broke a chair over his opponent’s head and then proceeded to beat him senseless with the leg. His matches were almost always guaranteed to be bloodbaths.

Abdullah became one of the many forefathers to introduced hardcore style wrestling before the days of ECW. He became infamous traveling from territory to territory, keeping his character fresh and also known for using his trusty fork to dig into opponents wounds. He's also had a number of managers over the years

Although he's never worked in the WWE, he's wrestled in WCW from 1991 to 1992. In 1991 at Halloween Havoc, he competed in a Chamber of Horrors match,in which Cactus Jack accidentally "electrocuted" him. Abdullah and Cactus briefly feuded in 1992.

The Madman from Sudan finally made his transition to ECW in 1993 where he competed against Kevin Sullivan, Terry Funk, and Stan Hansen, wrestled in Ultra Clash and Bloodfest.

Late in 2002, Abdullah made a special one night appearance in Ring of Honor as the partner of Homicide to face the Carnage Crew in a bloody Bunkhouse Brawl at ROH's Night of the Butcher.

Besides wrestling, Abby owns two restaurants (one in Atlanta, the other in Japan) called "Abdullah the Butcher's House of Ribs and Chinese Food." When not torturing and drawing blood from his victims, he can sometimes be spotted at his restaurant.

Today on December 13, 2008, Larry Shreve a.k.a Abdullah the Butcher, will wrestle his final match against ECW alumni Balls Mahoney at WWC's Lockout

After a decade that has spanned over five decades, he's become an influential figure in professional wrestling, serving as inspiration to the likes of Kevin Sullivan, Sabu, and Cactus Jack. His legacy will forever be etched in the history of pro wrestling.
