Breeders Cup 2011 Entries: Ruler on Ice Is Best Bet of Longshots
ROI doesn't equal Ruler On Ice—it will stand for Return On Investment.
The three-year-old gelding has raked in over $1 million ($1,085,200) in purse winnings for 2011. That has him as the ninth highest-earning horse of the year for 2011.
The descendant of Roman Ruler and Champagne Glow has been consistent and on the upswing as of late. He finished second on September 24, 2011 in the Pennsylvania Derby.
In that race, Ruler On Ice bested fellow Breeders Cup long shot, Rattlesnake Bridge.
Though Ruler On Ice hasn't won since the Belmont Stakes in June, the 30-1 odds are begging for bets on this talented and accomplished horse.
Don't be fooled by his 3-3-2 record in 10 career starts.
This horse gets up for the big races, especially at long odds. When he won the Belmont Stakes, he was a 24-1 underdog and made his huge breakthrough there.
Owners George and Lori Hall have taken his preparation slowly, but Ruler On Ice will be ready to perform in the Breeders Cup. When asked about Ruler On Ice's progress about three weeks ago, Ice's trainer Kelly John Breen said, “He went an easy five furlongs, 1:02 flat, last week.”
That is impressive, and that type of pace matched with his history makes ROI an attractive candidate, especially at long odds. Jockey Garrett K. Gomez has been among the sport's top-earning and successful riders this year, as well.
Ruler On Ice will win, place or show, and will pay handsomely at the very long odds of 30-to-1.
