San Francisco 49ers Won't Trade Up for Stanford's Andrew Luck
The San Francisco 49ers won't trade up for Stanford's Andrew Luck. Why would they? It's not like current quarterback Alex Smith is stinking up the joint.
To suggest that a team as strong as the 2011 San Francisco 49ers would be willing to dismantle what they have so painstakingly crafted together for the past few seasons is ludicrous.
I'm not here to say whether or not Andrew Luck will or will not succeed. Heck, he might become the next elite quarterback like some are saying he is capable of. He also might suffer a career ending injury in the first week of his rookie season.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Trent Baalke has a model. He envisions building a team very similar to the way that Green Bay and New England have been able to do. He isn't going to get swept up into the hype that surrounds the talented Senior quarterback from Stanford University.
Baalke will continue to take carefully measured steps to build the team from the inside out. Both the offensive and defensive lines are among the best in the league. NFL games are won and lost in the trenches, and our record speaks for itself.
In addition to the fact that Alex Smith is making all the right decisions, he has proven to be unshakable when the pressure is on. His three fourth quarter come from behind victories is the most of any quarterback in the league.
The 49ers also moved up in last year's draft to snag a player that Harbaugh has been very high on, Colin Kaepernick. Although nobody in their right mind would suggest that he's ready to start in this league, he possesses all the tools necessary to succeed.
In order to move from the bottom of the draft board to the top, the 49ers would have to give away far too much. Unless you're Jim Irsay, nobody wants to put all their eggs into one basket.
There is just no feasible plan for the 49ers to acquire the services of Andrew Luck next season. It's not going to happen.
