Steve Williams Should Be Banned Following Racial Slur Towards Tiger Woods

Michael MillNov 4, 2011

There should be no reason for a caddie to ever receive enough attention to grab headlines in the golfing world.

Recently, the only one that has grabbed headlines is Steve Williams and wasn't for anything positive.

In fact, when he claimed that the win at the Bridgestone Invitational was the best of his career, it did nothing but damage his image. He was laughed at. Now he has done it again.

During the Caddie Awards Night in Shanghai, Williams let out a racial remark about Tiger Woods that caught everybody's attention.

"It was my aim to shove it right up that black arsehole." Regardless on your opinions towards Woods, comments like this are completely unacceptable.

Williams doesn't like Woods, we get it. There is absolutely no justification at making a crude comment involving race.

Things like this can't be allowed in the golfing world. They can't be allowed in the real world either. Luckily, with golf there are repercussions for actions like this.

The Awards Night is run jointly by the United States and European Tours. Both of these tours have the ability to ban caddies. If there has ever been a reason to ban a caddie, this is it.

They need to lay the hammer down on Williams for his remarks. Recently he has done nothing but damage the game of golf.

Ban him for a few events, a year or forever. It really doesn't matter, just get him off the course and out of the spotlight.
