2011 Breeders Cup Field: So You Think and Game on Dude Are Sneaky Favorites
Uncle Mo, that is the only horse that anyone wants to talk about. I have it in good mind that So You Think and Game on Dude will have Churchill Downs mad as they come down the home stretch.
It is hard not to fall in love with Uncle Mo, a horse who came back from a terrible illness to be the odds on favorite at this year's Breeders' Cup. Uncle Mo has the power and punch to deliver amidst this great field.
I have no idea what we will get from him as far as endurance. That is the one thing that is in short supply as he heads to a long race. Of course, you never can count out a horse with this much drive and determination.
That brings me to Havre de Grace, the lady can run and will no doubt feature in the waning moments of this race. But she is not the horse that intrigues me, I already know what we are going to get from Havre de Grace.
The puzzle surrounding Churchill Downs is on So You Think. Aidan O’Brien has trained one hell of an Australian horse. The only fault is that he has dominated on turf and has yet to run on dirt.
You can hardly be boastful when you are running your first dirt race at the Breeders' Classic, but I have confidence that O'Brien has done everything he can to transfer this horse to the soft stuff.
It is almost laughable to think this well-oiled machine of a racing horse will be shocked at the surroundings. He will come ready to run and that should make him a great horse to surprise.
I also love Game on Dude. The horse has finished first or second in eight of his 13 career races. Simply, he likes to be near the front. In what should be a hotly-contested field, that is all you need to be in the mix at the end.
The 10-1 odds that the Chantal Sutherland horse is garnering is a great bet if you like her aggressive style of riding.
There is a ton to like about Uncle Mo and Havre de Grace, but don't sleep on the field. There is more than one horse willing to step up and shock Churchill Downs at the Classic.
