Terrell Owens Needs NFL Now More Than Ever

No star in the history of any sport has ever been bigger than that sport. Some come close, but the game does move on long after the star is gone from it.

Terrell Owens is learning that lesson the hard way. What's worse for Owens is that this seems to be happening at a time when Owens needs the NFL, or at least the sport of football, more than ever.

Black Sports Online is reporting that Owens is now involved in a lawsuit with an attorney.

According to CourthouseNews.com, Owens has now sued an attorney who allegedly encouraged him to invest $2 million “in an Alabama entertainment center that included a gaming hall with electronic bingo, which is an illegal gambling operation in Alabama, and a violation of NFL policy.”

The project apparently collapsed when the devices to be used were deemed to violate Alabama law.  Owens claims among other things that the lawyer failed to explain the risks.  He alleges negligence and breach of fiduciary duty.

I am not viewing this from a financial point of view. Frankly, I have no idea what Owens' monetary situation is. That's none of my business, and it never will be.

But let's take a look at what Owens has gone through in recent months.

Of course, the main thing to look at is his rumored suicide attempt detailed by TMZ. Whether that was actually a suicide attempt or not can be debated. But whether it was or not, it's a horrible thing to happen to a person.

Owens is also coming off of a serious injury that, as of right now, appears to have ended his career. We're halfway through a season that he hasn't played in, and he's not signed to a team. It's not likely that he'll play beyond this season if someone doesn't give him a shot in 2011.

Right now, Owens needs the NFL and football. For the sake of his sanity and for us focusing on something on the field, he needs someone to sign him.

It's up to Owens to prove that he's worthy.
