Week 9 Fantasy Football Rankings: Defenses That Will Dominate

T.J. McaloonNov 4, 2011

The roster spot for special teams and defense is always overlooked when you are drafting your team. Yet, every week, there is a defense or two that comes out and scores more than most of the positional players in fantasy football.

Having a good defense is almost as crucial as having a top-tier quarterback or an elite running back.

These defenses will score a lot of points this week, while carrying you to a much-needed Week 9 fantasy football victory.

Oakland Raiders

All that you need to know about the Oakland Raiders' matchup this week is that they are playing the very turnover-prone Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos. Oakland will have a huge day on Sunday and rack up points through interceptions, fumble recoveries and sacks.

They will not get a shutout, but the Raiders will have multiple chances to take an interception back for a touchdown.

San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco, like Oakland, play a very turnover-happy quarterback this week in the Washington Redskins' John Beck.

This week, the 49ers are an excellent play. They will score you a lot of points from sacks, interceptions and have a phenomenal chance at a shutout.

Last week, the Redskins were unable to score against a mediocre defense in the Buffalo Bills. This week, it will be even tougher for this struggling offense to get the ball across the goal line or through the uprights.

Houston Texans

When Houston plays a struggling offense, like the Tennessee Titans, they score nearly 20 points. In their recent game against Tennessee, they scored 16 points. Against the Indianapolis Colts, they scored 17.

This week, the Texans have a great chance to have a huge day when they play a Cleveland Browns team that is playing with their third-string running back. This means Pat Shurmur's team will have to turn the ball over to their quarterback, Colt McCoy.

Start the Texans with extreme confidence this weekend, as they have a great chance to allow only 3-7 points.

These are three defenses that, if you pick them up, will be the tipping point in your game this week.
