Rashad Evans is Eager to Regain Title Shot, Awaits Winner of Jones vs. Machida

Mike HodgesNov 4, 2011

Regardless of who emerges victorious from UFC 140's main event between Jon Jones and Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans wants his title shot.

Evans was originally scheduled to face the 24-year-old Jones, before a hand injury would prevent him from competing. Eventually, Machida would be called upon to replace him.

"Suga" has been in and out of the title picture for nearly a year, but after recovering from surgery, Evans is looking to get back to fighting. And whether it's Jones or Machida, Evans said he has something to gain from facing either competitor.

"I would love to fight Lyoto again and rectify my loss against him and I would like the opportunity to fight Jones as well," Evans told SportsVibe.co.uk. "I want to be the guy that solves the puzzle because I use to train with Jones; I know where I can beat him."

Evans remains sidelined for the rest of the year, but he is optimistic of a return date.

"The recovery is going well and ideally I want to be back in February. We have an event on Super Bowl weekend so that would be great if I can fight on that card," he said.

While it isn't likely Evans will headline the Super Bowl card, as the spot is reserved for Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz, it is possible a light heavyweight title bout could be scheduled as the co-main event.

Traditionally, the Super Bowl card has always been one of the UFC's successful cards, and barring any injuries prior to then, the company would have two of the biggest bouts being showcased on one card.
