Manny Pacquiao Should Be Fighting Mayweather, Not Wasting His Time with Marquez

Nicholas GossNov 4, 2011

Manny Pacquiao needs to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. as soon as possible and not waste his time with Juan Manuel Marquez.

Not to say Marquez is not a good fighter, but Pacquiao needs to man up and fight Mayweather. This fight has been long overdue.

You know Mayweather will fight if Pacman wants to fight, and while there is an ESPN report that a May 5 date has been set for a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight, a promoter called it a "joke."

There could be up to $60 million in a Pacman vs. Mayweather fight, and not only would the fight have the potential to save boxing, it will draw people to the sport.

Leonard Ellerbe is one of Mayweather's advisers, and he said the following in an ESPN story:

"

"We're looking to make the biggest fight possible and everyone knows what that fight is, the little fella," said Ellerbe, who was talking about Pacquiao.

"

This has to be an invitation to Pacman to fight in the biggest bout in years. Whether he accepts is a different story.

Mayweather is basically saying to Pacquiao that he's ready to go, and if Pacman wants to be the best, he has to be the best.

If Manny Pacquiao wants to prove he's the best boxer in the world, he must beat Mayweather by a knockout. If he refuses to even fight Floyd, then he should be ashamed of himself.

Would the great boxers in history like Mohammed Ali shy away from a major fight? Absolutely not, Ali would ask for a place, date, time and tell his opponent he was making a major mistake.

Manny Pacquiao's fight against Juan Manuel Marquez will be exciting, but Pacman is wasting time that he could be using to set a date for a historic bout with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
