Kobe vs Shaq and 5 Other Feuds That Need to Be Settled in the Octagon

Alex BallentineNov 3, 2011

As if it hasn't been played out enough, the Kobe vs. Shaq feud has yet again written a new chapter–the NBA lockout needs to end soon.

The two recently took verbal jabs at each other, highlighted by Kobe calling Shaq out on his work ethic during their time playing together for the Los Angeles Lakers. Personally, the beef is getting old.

If only there were someway to settle the feud once and for all...

Taking this feud to the octagon would settle things once and for all and, if it doesn't, who really cares? It sure beats hearing them whine about each other.

The size advantage obviously goes to Shaq where the quickness and athleticism advantage clearly goes to Kobe. As long as this fight would be better than any episode of Shaq vs., everyone wins.

Taking things to the cage would be a great way to settle any feud or debate that simply goes on too long. While none of these fights would ever get sanctioned, its fun to think about what would happen if these feuds could just be settled in the octagon.

Jim Harbaugh vs Jim Schwartz

1 of 5

The latest feud to get way too much airtime could definitely use some good ole fashioned full contact resolution. When San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh took exception to Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz's comments during the game by adding a little something extra to his post-game handshake, what ensued was one of the most awkward verbal assaults captured on national television.

Over the next few days, a media storm was created, analyzing every single aspect of the handshake, who was at fault, the lack of disciplinary action and anything else that could possibly be taken from the incident.

Instead of sitting around and analyzing what was said and who was at fault, a fight would be much more efficient in settling the score.

Most people would favor Harbaugh because of his obvious size advantage and intensity, but, c'mon, he's still an ex-quarterback.

Prediction: Schwartz 3rd round TKO

Terrell Owens vs Donovan McNabb

2 of 5

The line of people that would like to get a shot at T.O. is enormous but his most famous feud came with quarterback Donovan McNabb during their time with the Philadelphia Eagles. When the Eagles first signed Owens, Philly fans had visions of Lombardi trophies dancing in their heads. It was supposed to be a match made in heaven.

It was anything but.

While the duo were able to team up for a Super Bowl run, which resulted in a loss to the Patriots, the following season Owens repeatedly called out McNabb for his performance in the Super Bowl and were not even on speaking terms for much of the next season.

While this feud has been dormant for the last few years it would still be great to see these two put on the gloves and scrap, especially given that their football careers are all but over.

Prediction: McNabb holds his own for the beginning of the fight but eventually gasses out and succumbs to Owens' power towards the end. Owens by Decision.

Rick Pitino vs John Calipari

3 of 5

Can you imagine the recruiting implications in this one?!

Two of the nation's best basketball coaches from one of the top rivalries in college basketball settling the score once and for all in the cage? Pay-Per-View gold!

Pitino and Calipari have stayed largely passive-aggressive in their verbal jabs at each other but in the octagon, the jabs are real. And much more fun to watch. The real king of Kentucky could be crowned and bragging rights are on the line, this would be a classic.

Prediction: This fight is truly as close as it could be, Calipari seems to be a bit larger but Pitino seems a bit quicker. Both of these guys are similar personality wise and both would cheat to win if they had to. Pitino by Split Decision.

Chad Ochocinco vs Skip Bayless

4 of 5

Ochocinco appears to have really lost a step on the football field, so maybe its time for him to start exploring his options. Skip Bayless and Ochocinco have developed a unique feud over time, due to Bayless' negative comments on the star wide receiver's play.

Bayless talks about his superior athleticism and cardio on the air all the time and a majority of fans would love to see him back up his talks.

Ochocinco does his fair share of talking too and even called out UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva over Twitter. While Silva would make quick work of Ochocinco, a journalist-NFL Player fight would certainly be a novelty fight worth watching.

Prediction: Bayless may be in great shape, but he's not an NFL athlete. Ocho by 1st round KO.

Arnold Schwarzenegger vs Sylvester Stallone

5 of 5

Ok so this isn't actually a feud but it is one heckuva match-up–two of the most macho actors in history, stepping into the cage in a battle of the silver screen titans.

In one corner, you have Schwarzenegger, the Governator, a man who defended the earth from an alien predator and may or may not be a cyborg.

In the other corner is a man who single-handedly ended the Cold War and defeated communism with his excellent speaking skills after beating the unbeatable Russian, Ivan Drago.

Prediction: Stallone. Because if I can change... and YOU can change... maybe WE ALL can change!

These are the feuds that need to be settled in the octagon as soon as possible. Disagree with the picks? Have your own match-up? Let me know in the comments.
