Week 9 Waiver Wire: Dexter McCluster and Top Fantasy Football Flex Plays

Kyle VassaloNov 3, 2011

There is nothing more satisfying than taking a flier on a flex play while your superstar is on a bye week and watching him outscore everyone on your team.

This week, there are players lingering on the waiver wire who won't just fill the void, they'll be the reason you come away with a victory.

Here are this week's top flex plays lingering on the waiver wire.

Dexter McCluster

The Chiefs may not have Jamaal Charles carrying the ball, but Jackie Battle, Thomas Jones and Dexter McCluster have filled the void on the ground.

The surging Chiefs have the luxury of taking on the winless Dolphins this week at Arrowhead. The Dolphins allow just shy of 110 rushing YPG, and though Battle is now headlining the trio of backs, McCluster has 210 rushing yards this season, nearly three times as many rushing yards as he had last season.

He's also got 22 catches on the year, and given the state of the Dolphins' pass defense, you can expect McCluster to sneak out of the backfield 4-5 times, making him ideal in PPR leagues.

Jacoby Ford

The Raiders sacrificed to bring in Carson Palmer. A miserable debut by Palmer isn't going to deter them from slinging the ball around and stretching the vertical passing game.

Jacoby Ford really came on last season and he's had a pedestrian two or three catches in four games this season, but this will serve as his breakout game.

Ford has lightning speed. He's one of the many deep threats in Oakland, and a gadget guy who will be the beneficiary of a much more comfortable Palmer.

Brent Celek

Brent Celek had seven catches for 94 yards and a touchdown. It was his second game in a row finding the end zone and he's got the right matchup at the right time.

The Bears know how to bring the heat, but they have the 28th-ranked pass defense in the NFL and Celek has become Michael Vick's favorite hot option.

Chicago doesn't have the tools to attend to the Eagles' most dangerous options and keep Celek in check. Expect another big week and his third consecutive game with at least one touchdown.
