WWE Survivor Series: 9 Matches That Need to Be Added to the Card at MSG

Drake OzNov 3, 2011

Survivor Series is finally looking like a "Big Four" pay-per-view.

After several years of the show being rather forgettable and actually almost being scrapped altogether by Vince McMahon, the WWE is going all out to make sure that this year's PPV rocks Madison Square Garden.

So far, we've got two confirmed matches: The Rock and John Cena vs. The Miz and R-Truth and the WWE Championship Match featuring Alberto Del Rio defending against CM Punk.

On tomorrow's episode of SmackDown, we'll see a World Heavyweight Championship match added to the card. But I'll avoid spoiling that for you.

We know there won't only be three bouts at Survivor Series, however, so here are nine matches that need to be added to the card.

Note: Given that any 5-on-5 match will use a boatload of superstars, I'm going to have some wrestlers appearing in multiple matches. It basically means that I wouldn't mean seeing either of them.

WARNING: THIS SLIDESHOW CONTAINS SPOILERS!

9. Divas Championship: Eve vs. Beth Phoenix

1 of 9

Eve wrestled Beth Phoenix for the Divas Championship last month at Vengeance, and it wasn't exactly the best Divas match we've ever seen.

But it was five times as good as any match we saw between Beth and Kelly Kelly, and truthfully, it was probably one of the better Divas matches we've watched in the last year or two.

So, I guess I'm fine with seeing it again if this is the best the Divas division has to offer, which it probably is.

Following the recent releases of the likes of Gail Kim, Maryse and Melina, there just aren't enough Divas to put on a watchable 5-on-5 match. So, I think we'll just see a straight up singles match.

If not, we might get Kelly Kelly and Eve vs. the Sisters of Salvation (Beth and Natalya), which would be nice because Natalya's arguably the best female wrestler in the company.

8. United States Champion: Dolph Ziggler vs. Zack Ryder

2 of 9

Zack Ryder has four victories over Dolph Ziggler, but he's not the No. 1 contender for the United States Championship?

Are you serious, bro?

It seems to me like Ryder—who lost a US Title match against Ziggler at Vengeancehas done enough to become the No. 1 contender again, and these two look like they have some pretty solid chemistry together.

Ziggler's proven to be one of the best overall workers in the company, and Ryder's getting more and more comfortable being a mid-card player on Raw.

Let's see what these can do on a big stage like Survivor Series.

7. No Holds Barred Match: Triple H vs. Kevin Nash

3 of 9

But call me a skeptic of this report because I just can't see the WWE putting all this effort and TV time into the Triple H/Nash storyline only to leave it completely off the card.

As we saw with the CM Punk/Triple H match at Night of Champions, it's not really a good idea to put what is being billed as a huge match on a pay-per-view that hardly anyone will watch. That's what the WWE would be doing if they waited until TLC to have Triple H wrestle Nash.

So, let them wrestle at Survivor Series, and put them in a No Holds Barred Match because we know these two are going to want to brawl, and it will help hide some of Nash's limitations in the ring.

6. WWE Tag Team Championship: Wade Barrett & Cody Rhodes vs. Kofi Kingston and ?

4 of 9

Anyone else like the sound of a Wade Barrett/Cody Rhodes tag team as much as I do?

While I get that Rhodes is the Intercontinental Champion and both he and Barrett are big-time singles players on SmackDown at the moment, they'd be another duo that could legitimize the WWE's tag team division.

They defeated the WWE Tag Team Champions clean on Monday's Raw, so they have as much business being the No. 1 contenders for the titles as anybody.

The problem, though, is that Evan Bourne is currently suspended, so I'm not sure we'll see the tag team titles defended until he comes back. That problem could be solved, however, by allowing Kofi Kingston to choose a temporary partner while Bourne is suspended.

5. Team Nash vs. Team Triple H

5 of 9

Team Nash: Kevin Nash, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger, Brodus Clay and David Otunga

Team Triple H: Triple H, Kofi Kingston, Zack Ryder, John Morrison and Mason Ryan

If Triple H isn't "healthy enough" to compete in a singles match at Survivor Series, then another idea is to put him in traditional 5-on-5 match with a number of young studs on Raw.

The concept of the match could be simple: The other members of Triple H's team do most of the work, Triple H gets tagged in last and he's able to eliminate Nash before being quickly eliminated himself and then following Nash backstage for a huge melee.

In addition to keeping Nash out of the ring for an extended period, it would keep their storyline going as we head to TLC and also give Raw's up-and-comers a chance to shine.

Call it a win-win for me.

4. Intercontinental Championship: Cody Rhodes vs. Booker T

6 of 9

WARNING: THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM TOMORROW'S SMACKDOWN!

Don't worry, guys. Booker T doesn't return to action on Friday's episode of SmackDown.

But, in the opening match of the show, Randy Orton defeats Cody Rhodes in a Street Fight, which—considering it's a gimmick match—leads me to believe that it could have been the blowoff to their feud.

If it is, then cue Booker T.

The future WWE Hall of Famer is advertised to wrestle Rhodes for the Intercontinental title on several December house shows, so his TV return to the ring could be right around the corner.

I definitely wouldn't mind seeing Rhodes vs. Booker T at Survivor Series and in extended feud that helps get Rhodes even more over as one of SmackDown's top heels.

3. World Heavyweight Championship: Daniel Bryan Cashes in

7 of 9

Daniel Bryan has vowed that he will not cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase until WrestleMania, so it's not going to look good for him if he does it beforehand.

Unless he does one of two things: He turns heel in the process, or he defeats Mark Henry to end his reign of terror on SmackDown.

If he cashes in on a baby face and goes heel, then he's already going to lose the respect of the fans. But, if he cashes in on Henry (one of the biggest heels in the WWE), I think we'll all be willing to forgive him for taking the title off the World's Strongest Man.

I just don't have enough confidence in the WWE creative team to wait until WrestleMania for Bryan to cash in and win the World title, so I'll always consider the possibility of him doing it long before the granddaddy of them all.

2. Sheamus vs. Wade Barrett

8 of 9

WARNING: THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS!

If you've read the spoilers for this Friday's episode of SmackDown, then you know that Wade Barrett and Christian attacked Sheamus.

Now, this could certainly be leading toward a traditional 5-on-5 match, but it could also be building to a Sheamus vs. Barrett bout.

I'm a huge fan of both guys, so I'm going to be rather excited if that happens. But I also won't shed a tear if they're two competitors in a traditional Survivor Series bout.

As long as we get Barrett/Sheamus in some form, we win.

1. Team Sheamus/Orton vs. Team Christian/Rhodes

9 of 9

Team Sheamus/Orton: Sheamus, Randy Orton, Sin Cara, Daniel Bryan and Ted DiBiase

Team Christian/Rhodes: Christian, Cody Rhodes, Wade Barrett, Hunico and Tyson Kidd

I love the prospects of this match.

It's an age old formula that pits SmackDown's biggest baby faces against its biggest heels in a bout that would probably be really good wrestling-wise.

You've got SmackDown's top two stars (Sheamus and Orton), the exciting Sin Cara, the best wrestler on the planet (Bryan) and an underrated wrestler in DiBiase taking on the show's veteran heel (Christian), two of the best young heels in the company (Rhodes and Barrett) and two more guys who I think are really underrated (Hunico and Kidd).

And, though DiBiase and Kidd may seem like random additions, they'll make a lot more sense when you watch tomorrow's episode of SmackDown.
