Georgia Football: 5 Players to Watch in the New Mexico State Game

Brian JonesNov 3, 2011

If you haven't heard already, Isaiah Crowell, Carlton Thomas and Ken Malcolme will not be playing in the game against New Mexico State on Saturday due to violating team rules.

Also, Richard Samuel is out because he injured his ankle on the last play of the game against Florida.

So it's clear that the running back position will be something to watch for Georgia fans, because they will likely see a slew of players getting touches on Saturday.

Also, it will be interesting to see if the defense can continue to play at a high level. New Mexico State is not going to give the Bulldog defense fits, but can the Bulldogs get themselves amped up for this game after an emotional win last week?

Here are five Bulldogs to watch on Saturday.

Brandon Harton

1 of 5

As of Thursday, Brandon Harton will likely get the start at tailback for the Bulldogs.

The reason for that is he has more experience than the remaining backs on the roster, as he compiled 11 carries for 38 yards in the game against Coastal Carolina.

Harton is a redshirt sophomore from Reidsville, Ga. and was a member of the scour team last year.

Kyle Karempelis

2 of 5

The No. 2 tailback for the Bulldogs this Saturday will be Kyle Karempelis, who is a true freshman from Norcross, Ga.

Karempelis was an invited walk-on, but earned a scholarship because he impressed the coaching staff for his work at practice.

He has been gaining ground on Horton when it comes to playing time on Saturday, so don't be surprised if Horton and Karempelis split the carries.

Zander Ogletree

3 of 5

Zander Ogletree, brother of inside linebacker Alec Ogletree, is a backup fullback, but is expected to see some carries in the game on Saturday.

Ogletree appeared in 12 games last year and tallied two carries and one reception.

Ogletree is not going to light to world on fire, but he has experience at the position and will not make too many mistakes.

Brandon Boykin

4 of 5

Brandon Boykin may be the best running back the Bulldogs have, and he is naturally a defensive back.

The Bulldogs normally use Boykin on offense to mix thing up, but with the position so depleted, he may be playing on the offensive side of the ball more than he has to.

Don't be surprised if Boykin gets 12-15 touches. If he does, the Aggies are in trouble.

Jarvis Jones

5 of 5

Jarvis Jones is coming off his best game as a Bulldog, as he notched four sacks in the win against Florida.

But there's a chance he may not play because of a knee sprain he suffered. If  Jones does play, it will be interesting if the Aggies can attack Jones early and often.

But by the way Jones has been playing, Jones is up for anything the Aggies throw at him.
