Pacquiao vs. Mayweather: Money May Promises to Make Fight Happen on May 5th
We are used to Floyd Mayweather Jr. running his mouth, but on a rare night in November, he finally piqued our interest.
ESPN reports one half of boxing's dynamic duo is prepared to do everything in his power to make a Manny Pacquiao fight happen by May 5th next year.
That's right. Your Cinco de Mayo party next year may have the fight of the century as a precursor to the night's festivities.
Mayweather is still planning his next move after knocking out Victor Ortiz in his last bout. It seems that he doesn't want to waste nearly as much time as he did last time. It has also become clear that he is tired of hearing all the dissent from fans calling him out as scared to fight Pacquiao.
Mayweather's adviser Leonard Ellerbe spoke with ESPN on Wednesday night and had some very interesting things to say.
"We're looking to make the biggest fight possible and everyone knows what that fight is, the little fella. Floyd made it very clear that he wants to give the fans the biggest fights that are out there. He wants to stay active. We're going to do everything in our power to make the biggest fight out there for the fans and we all know what the fight is.
I'm very excited that the sport's biggest pay-per-view star is going to be back on May 5. We have informed the pay-per-view industry and I have the arena on hold. I'm excited to continue my relationship with Floyd and his team. It's always fun to work with Floyd.
"
Now I will take this grand news with the biggest grain of salt that I can find. We have been waiting for this fight for years so excuse me if I don't believe this as gospel.
Mayweather could be simply trying to steal a little bit of Pacquiao's thunder as we head into his bout with Juan Manuel Marquez next weekend.
It could also be a ploy to get inside the only fighter that can take him down without actually having to fight him. If Pacquiao is upset, the biggest fight of the century gets a whole lot smaller.
Lastly, there is the possibility that Mayweather is telling the truth. Maybe he is indeed ready to make this fight happen. I can hardly contain my excitement and hope that this is the case.
Cinco de Mayo will be a once in a lifetime affair in 2012...If we choose to believe anything Money May says.
