2011 PPR Fantasy Football Week 9: Wide Receivers (WR) Rankings / Projections

Sean E. DouglasNov 2, 2011

Hakeem Nicks @ Patriots -

It looks like Hakeem Nicks has a chance to play after a hamstring injury kept him out of the final minutes of the team's close victory over the Dolphins. Keep an eye on Nicks' late-week practice participation. If he’s a go against the Patriots, he should be a WR-1 play for at least PPR leagues as Eli Manning’s favorite target.

As I talked about in our standard scoring Week 9 rankings for receivers, I still view Victor Cruz as a must-start receiver this week as the Patriots will force the Giants to work the football down the field, not allowing the football to get over the top of the defense. This should mean both Nicks and Cruz will be a lock for at least six receptions, 80 yards and possibly a score each.

Mario Manningham and Jake Ballard will be in the mix as well, but Manningham’s game is better suited for the deep routes, and again, the Patriots have been respectable against those plays in recent weeks.

Julio Jones @ Colts -

We shall see how Julio Jones practices later in the week but on Tuesday, he gave us some hope by saying that he felt great when working out in recent days. Jones was having a fine season and was a weekly WR-2 play in PPR leagues until a hamstring injury against the Packers sidelined him. If he’s back, Jones should be a respectable WR-3 play this week, as he may see a limited amount of snaps, and the Falcons may shut the passing game down after the third quarter if they get up to a big lead.
