Week 9 Fantasy Football Rankings: 5 Can't-Miss WR Point Machines

Zachary D. RymerNov 3, 2011

For the first time all year, we know for a fact that Calvin Johnson and Steve Smith are not going to be racking up points this weekend.

They have byes, much to their owners' chagrin. Suckers.

With them out of the picture, assessing which wide receivers will be racking up the fantasy points in Week 9 is considerably more difficult. There's just no way of knowing for sure.

However, I can hazard a few educated guesses. Here are five wide receivers who are set to score big in Week 9.

5. Dwayne Bowe, Kansas City Chiefs

Dwayne Bowe has been kept largely in check in his last two games, catching just 10 passes for 138 yards and no touchdowns.

On Sunday, Bowe and the Chiefs will be going up against the Miami Dolphins, who are a good team for Bowe to break out against. The Dolphins have the No. 27 passing defense in the NFL, and you can typically count on them to give up one touchdown to a receiver every week.

4. Roddy White, Atlanta Falcons

Rowdy Roddy hasn't been piling up yards in recent weeks, but he does have touchdown catches in two of his last three games.

On Sunday, White will be pitted against the Indianapolis Colts, who are among the league leaders in terms of fantasy points allowed to wide receivers. I'm not sure White is in for a 100-yard game, but another touchdown grab and good yardage totals should be in the cards.

3. Wes Welker, New England Patriots

By his standards, Wes Welker has had two subpar games in a row. He's caught just 12 passes for 84 yards and a touchdown. What a bum.

Welker will be looking to get back to his record-setting pace on Sunday against the New York Giants. The good news for Welker is that the Giants have had their issues containing opposing receivers this year. What's more, the Patriots are another team that will be looking to vent after an embarrassing loss.

I suppose I should mention that Welker is a little dinged up (see NESN.com's Jeff Howe) this week, but I for one expect him to be okay.

2. Vincent Jackson, San Diego Chargers

Vincent Jackson has been pretty lame in his last three games, pulling in just seven catches for 98 yards and no touchdowns.

I expect a big increase in production against the Green Bay Packers. The Packers tend to give up a lot of yards to wide receivers, and the Chargers' banged-up running backs should create extra chances for Jackson.

Besides, the Chargers are playing at home for the first time since early October. In that game, Jackson had over 100 yards receiving and a touchdown.

1. Marques Colston, New Orleans Saints

Marques Colston had a lousy game against the St. Louis Rams on Sunday, but he was pretty beastly in two games prior to that contest.

I expect Colston to be beastly again against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. Colston had his way with them a couple of weeks ago, and you just know that the Saints are going to be looking to explode back at home after their embarrassing loss to St. Louis.
