Alabama Football: 7 Things a Tide Win Could Prove Once and for All

Larry BurtonNov 3, 2011

Larry Burton (Syndicated Writer) A Tide win would do a lot more than just decide who was better on a Saturday evening in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

What other things would this win prove?

Read and see if you agree.

In the comment section below, feel free to share with your other Bleacher Report readers which ones you might or might now agree with and which ones you feel were left out.

Once and for All, Who Has the Best Defense?

1 of 8

LSU fans think the only reason the Tide has a statistical advantage is because they perceive that Alabama has played an easier schedule.

Should Alabama shut down LSU in the fashion which they are certainly capable of doing, then that should convince even the most diehard fan from LSU that they were simply pretenders to the defensive throne.

There is no doubt they are a fine defensive team; they may even be one of best, but this game will clearly show that LSU's defense is utterly and completely secondary to Alabama's defense.

That Experience Can Be Beaten by Superior Talent

2 of 8

For some strange reason, LSU's pair of quarterbacks have been hailed as one of the reasons that LSU could win this game. Neither is superior to A.J. McCarron, and no combination of the two will put up the numbers that McCarron will put up.

This game will prove that youth and talent can overcome age and experience.

It will also prove that McCarron may have been slighted so far this season for not rating him as one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC.

It Will Prove That Les Miles Is Not Nick Saban's Equal.

3 of 8

Whether you call him lucky or genius, you still must concede the fact that in the end, you have to call him a winner.

But Les Miles, for all the wins he piles up, is not the coach that LSU fans wish him so badly to be, and that is Nick Saban's equal.

Saban simply is the best there is, and even the most ardent Saban hater in LSU colors inwardly knows this whether they accept it or not.

LSU was an SEC afterthought for almost 30 years until Saban arrived and turned the program around and into a winner.

Miles is a good coach for keeping it going for the most part, but as any contestant on the show Survivor will tell you, it's easier to keep a fire going than to start one.

This game should once and for all put Miles' place in the pecking order clearly in place.

This Game Will Prove Alabama Is Ready for the National Championship Game.

4 of 8

This game will show that Alabama is ready for the BCS National Championship Game because they have just played a team that may in reality be the second best team in America.

The only thing the Tide will have to worry about is playing such lesser teams until that game and getting used to playing down to that kind of competition.

Winning by a Margin That Shows Home Field Advantage Wasn't Needed for Bama.

5 of 8

Alabama needs to at least double the Las Vegas odds to prove that the win would have occurred even if had been played at LSU's home stadium.

If they do that, then they take away a big LSU excuse that many fans will offer up as a reason for the loss.

That the Pollsters Had It Wrong, This Tide Team Has Been No. 1 All Year Long

6 of 8

It will prove that the Alabama fans and many in the media were right all along and that Alabama really is the No. 1 team in the country.

By simply beating the team given that was given that rating by the polls proves that Alabama really was the No. 1 team in the country.

The Win Shows That Whoever They Face in the BCS Game Will Be a Sacrificial Lamb

7 of 8

I sincerely believe that LSU is the second best team in America, and by beating them, this simply means that whoever does show up to face Alabama in the BCS game is simply a sacrificial lamb, that the SEC wins another national championship and that Alabama will start next season as one of the favorites to win it all again.

If Alabama Loses....

8 of 8

Now, on the other side of the coin, if Alabama loses, I'll need someone to send me some crow recipes.

I'll need to find a store that sells "Crow Helper."

I'll have to write an article proclaiming LSU and Les Miles the best thing since since God invented water.

The game can't begin or finish fast enough.
