LSU vs. Alabama Football: 5 Prop Bets to Wager on During the Big Game
Las Vegas sports books are reporting record action on this Saturday's Southeastern Conference showdown between the No. 1 LSU Tigers (8-0) and No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide (8-0).
Oddsmakers are also pulling out all the stops in terms of offering a variety of proposition wagers that patrons can lay their money on.
Let's take a look at five wagers that you should make for this weekend's big game.
Trent Richardson, Score a Second-Half Touchdown
1 of 5Alabama Crimson Tide running back Trent Richardson is one of those players who gets stronger as the game goes on and will likely have a Heisman Trophy-type moment late in Saturday's game.
He's already scored a touchdown in the final 30 minutes in the team's two biggest games thus far (Arkansas, Florida), while the Crimson Tide have dominated opponents in the second half this year.
LSU is a different type of animal, but I like Richardson to pound his way in for a score in the late stages.
Pick: Alabama RB Trent Richardson to score a touchdown in the second half (-110)
LSU Quarterbacks, Total Completions
2 of 5LSU signal-callers Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee combined to complete 14 passes for 208 yards in last year's 24-21 win as 6.5-point home underdogs.
The oddsmakers have gotten a little lazy on sending out this number, considering its expecting the same type of result.
Both players will need to make more plays through the air as the series shifts to Tuscaloosa.
Tigers head coach Les Miles should watch tape of Florida quarterback John Brantley completing 11 passes against the Crimson Tide defense before going down with a leg injury earlier this year.
Pick: LSU quarterbacks over 13.5 completions (-110)
Marquis Maze vs. Rueben Randle
3 of 5If you simply look at last year's meeting, LSU wide receiver Rueben Randle is your guy.
He caught three passes for 125 yards and a touchdown, while Alabama's Marquis Maze was limited to four catches for 35 yards.
Maze wasn't the go-to guy last year in Tuscaloosa, falling in line behind Julio Jones, who finished with 10 catches for 89 yards.
Travel back to the Nov. 7, 2009 meeting and you find Maze registering 88 yards, coming in just behind Jones' 102-yard performance.
Love the value.
Pick: Marquis Maze (+12.5 receiving yards) vs. Rueben Randle (-110)
Team to Score First
4 of 5Don't limit yourself in sports betting when you already pick a side in a game, as I find value in playing the LSU Tigers to score first Saturday.
I just hope it doesn't ruin my pick on the Alabama Crimson Tide to cover the 4.5 points.
Hard to walk away from betting odds like this when the No. 1 team in the country has scored first in every game this season.
Pick: LSU Tigers to score first (+125)
Most Points Scored, First or Second Half (Including OT)
5 of 5You don't want to lose a game of this magnitude in the first half of action, which will likely cause both coaching staffs to take a conservative approach in the early going.
Both teams have combined to score 64 of a potential 84 points in the final 30 minutes in the last two meetings.
Consider this my best bet in terms of prop wagers.
Pick: More points scored in the second half and overtime (-125)
