UFC on FOX: Cain Velasquez Prepared to Put on an Exciting Fight vs. Dos Santos

Matt SaccaroNov 2, 2011

UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez isn't concerned that the eyes of the entire sports world will be watching him on November 12th when the UFC makes its debut on FOX.

For him, it's just another day at the office.

"I treat it like a regular fight," Velasquez said at the UFC on FOX media conference call held today."

"I don’t think about whats going on on the outside. I just think about whats going on in the gym. I’m not thinking about the magnitude of the fight, I think about the training and the fight itself."

However, the fans and the media (and the UFC and FOX brass) have a far different view than Velasquez. To them, his match against Brazilian slugger Junior Dos Santos will be the biggest fight in the sport's short history.

As such, it has warranted an enormous amount of fan discussion and media coverage which will only grow as November 12th nears.

Again, the stoic Velasquez isn't worried or bothered by the increased hype surrounding his fight or by the uptick in media work he has to do.

"It’s just part of the job and I’m happy to do it. It hasn’t been overwhelming. It’s been just the right amount," he said.

Really, Velasquez is only concerned about one thing: putting on a good show for many first-time UFC viewers.

"I’m hoping to make it an exciting fight for the fans," he said. "We’re definitely just going to go out there and throw down, and people are going to love to see that."

Velasquez may be quick to shrug off any additional media responsibilities and attention, but this doesn't mean that he isn't feeling some pressure battling the enormity of what he is faced with: a fight with Junior Dos Santos on FOX.

"There’s always butterflies," he said. "There’s not going to be more than usual when you’re going through the grind of training and everything else to try and get your mind ready for whats ahead. There’s definitely butterflies there but me, that makes me feel ready."

Velasquez will need to be ready since he's facing his most difficult opponent to date on the biggest stage in the UFC's history, FOX, on November 12th.

If butterflies do in fact make him feel ready, then he'll feel more ready than he's ever been since this is no doubt the most important fight he's had in his career and may ever have.
