Week 9 PPR Fantasy Football Rankings: Running Backs (RB) Rankings/Projections

Sean E. DouglasNov 2, 2011

Mike Tolbert vs. Packers

The Chargers have done a good job in the running game this year, and while Mike Tolbert was out last week, he’s projected back against the Packers and might receive significant work if Ryan Mathews is out. Mathews suffered a groin injury late Monday night and even third-string running back Curtis Brinkley suffered a concussion at the end of the game.

The Packers have struggled against the run this year and are fresh off a game where Adrian Peterson torched them for 175 yards on the ground. Keep an eye on Tolbert and Mathews this week in practice but the Chargers' early week plans are to use a large dose of Tolbert if Matthews is out. This makes Tolbert a respectable RB-2 if he should control the feature-back responsibilities this week.

Willis McGahee @ Raiders

Another running back that missed time last week in Willis McGahee, but it appears he feels confident that he will be active this week against the Raiders. McGahee has been one of the few bright spots for the Broncos this year, as his hard-nosed running keeps the offense on schedule.

While Lance Ball will likely spot him for touches, McGahee should see over 20 carries against the Raiders if he should find the field. Unfortunately, don’t expect McGahee to rack up receptions this week as his hand injury will likely cost him time in passing situations. Knowshon Moreno is a bust running back, but at least he can catch the football; look to both as flex-play options.

Don’t expect the Broncos to throw much in this game, as the Raiders aren’t likely to run away with Carson Palmer under center and Darren McFadden possibly out.
