Week 9 Waiver Wire: Javon Ringer and RBs to Own

T.J. McaloonNov 2, 2011

Needing a running back this late in the season does not mean your team is in any danger of missing the playoffs, or that you have no chance at winning your league. There have been some horrible running backs this year that everyone swung and missed on.

Chris Johnson, Rashard Mendenhall and Peyton Hillis, I’m looking at you three.

However, don’t worry, fantasy owner, there are some running backs on your waiver wire worth picking up.

Drop someone on your roster that is not pulling his weight and pick these players up right now.

Javon Ringer, Tennessee Titans

Ringer is still second string on his team. However, much like Mike Tolbert in San Diego and Michael Bush in Oakland, Ringer will get his opportunities to net you a good amount of points each week.

Plus, with the terrible season Johnson is having, Ringer should see his level of production start to increase as the season goes on.

Ringer is only owned in six percent of leagues on Yahoo! sports. Give him an add to your roster, as last week in split time with Johnson he had 14 carries for 60 yards and a touchdown.

You can expect Ringer to have those stats every week going forward.

Jackie Battle, Kansas City Chiefs

It’s amazing Battle is still not owned in every fantasy league on Yahoo!.  He is the starter in Kansas City, he is getting the majority of the carries on the team and he is having very productive games.

Last week against San Diego, Battle had a poor game through three quarters, but in the fourth he went off, pushing his stats to 70 yards and a touchdown.

Battle is only owned in 58 percent of leagues and should be picked up for your team right now.

Chris Ogbonnaya, Cleveland Browns

Chris Ogbonnawho? No, this isn’t something out of the movie Office Space, where the Bobs are saying “Naha, naha, nahhot going to work here anymore.”

Instead, Ogbonnaya is going to take over as the Cleveland Browns starter as long as Montario Hardesty and Peyton Hillis are out with an injury, as both are out next week.

Ogbonnaya is owned in onlyfive5 percent of leagues on Yahoo! and should be a pickup this week if you need someone to fill in a spot on your team.

He has a great chance to score as the Browns play the Texans, and Ogbonnaya will get involved in the running and passing game on Sunday.

These three running backs are either seeing their production to increase or will get their first chance at making a name for themselves. Give these players a roster spot now, because if you wait someone else will pick them up before they have productive games on Sunday.
