Fantasy Football Week 15 Rankings: Kicker

Michael WhooleyDec 11, 2008

Whether you are in the playoffs or in the stretch run of a league that does not have playoffs and just plays “King of the Mountain” after 17 weeks, this is a crucial week for everyone.

Obviously, if you are in the playoffs, it is win or go home. Every point counts this time of year, as many playoff games can come down to a single point. You can’t afford to waste a start at any position, including kicker. The teams that have made it this far have likely done it with a balanced lineup, and if you want that fantasy football championship, you need to keep that balance.

As you prepare your lineup, the Bruno Boys once again would like to stress not to forget about your kicker. Sure, they may not be flashy, but kickers are a good source of fantasy points. It’s once again time to kick back and enjoy the Bruno Boys Fantasy Football Week 15 Kicker Rankings.

--------------------

1. Stephen Gostkowski (New England Patriots) @ Oakland

Stephen Gostkowski started the season near the top of these rankings and it appears that he will finish the season here, too. Thanks to the loss of Tom Brady, Gostkowski has had more field goal attempts this year than extra points. Look for another double-figure outing from Gostkowski against the Raiders, who have given up an average of 23 points per game this season.
Point Projection: 12 points

--------------------

2. Neil Rackers (Arizona Cardinals) vs. Minnesota

While the Vikings should be able to stop the run and force more passing, that's not a bad thing for the Cardinals. As usual, Arizona will be able to move the ball and give Rackers plenty of opportunities. When given the opportunity, he has hit 88 percent of his field goal attempts this season. Rackers also looks good for double digits this week.
Point Projection: 11 points

--------------------

3. Rob Bironas (Tennessee Titans) @ Houston

Rob Bironas is another accurate kicker, when given the opportunity. If Mario Williams and Company can slow down the Tennessee running game, he should see a good deal of field goal attempts this week. Bironas should be in line for a big game against a defense that gives up 25.5 points per game.
Point Projection: 11 points

--------------------

4. Mason Crosby (Green Bay Packers) @ Jacksonville

Mason Crosby only scored three points last week, as he did not get any field goal attempts. Jacksonville has not had the defense many people were expecting, so we look for a rebound week for Crosby. Last time he scored three points, he followed it up with an 11-point effort. Look for similar results this week.
Point Projection: 11 points

--------------------

5. David Akers (Philadelphia Eagles) vs. Cleveland

The Philadelphia Eagles are fighting to stay in the playoff race as they look for their third straight win when they host the Cleveland Browns on Monday night. Akers should rebound with a big game after getting two field goals blocked in Week 14 because the Eagles will put up points in this one.
Point Projection: 10 points

--------------------

6. Ryan Longwell (Minnesota Vikings) @ Arizona

For some reason, the Vikings have struggled this season against the Detroit Lions, though they did manage to sweep the season series with Detroit. Ryan Longwell kicked his second field goal of the game with 22 seconds left on the clock to seal the Vikings' victory in Week 14 against the Lions. Look for a big day from Longwell in a desert shootout this week against the Cardinals.
Point Projection: 10 points

--------------------

7. Jason Elam (Atlanta Falcons) vs. Tampa Bay

This is a big game for two teams coming off a loss. They are both fighting for the division and a  playoff spot. Tampa Bay may not completely stop the Falcons' offense, but it can slow them down enough to create some field goal opportunities for Jason Elam. He has only missed two field goal attempts this season. Elam should be starting if you have him.
Point Projection: 10 points
