10 Signs That You Are a Diehard MMA Fan

Tim McTiernanNov 1, 2011

Do you find yourself watching TV for several hours on many Saturday evenings?

Do your days consist of talking to people about your favorite fighters or how much you hate some other fighter?

Is your water-cooler talk about last night's episode of The Ultimate Fighter?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may be a diehard MMA fan.

Being a diehard MMA fan is basically one of the best things ever, so here are 10 signs that you may be a diehard fan.

1. You Watch Every PPV

1 of 10

Not only do you watch every PPV, but you watch every free card on Spike, from the Fight Nights to the free numbered events—you don't miss any of it.

Or, in the case of what happened to me with UFC 123 and UFC 127, if you miss the fights from the night before, you turn off your phone, don't sign onto Facebook, don't contact anybody and find a way to watch the fights from last night before doing anything else.

You make sure that come Saturday night, you're going to watch the fights that are on.

2. You Actually Know Who the Fighters on the Facebook Fights Are

2 of 10

In addition to catching all the televised fights, you watch the free fights that the UFC puts on Facebook.

Not only do you watch those fights, but you actually know who the fighters are, and you have an interest in the outcome.

Most of the time at least. Let's be honest—has anyone heard of Che Mills?

3. You Think Bas Rutten Is Awesome

3 of 10

Let's be 100 percent honest: Is there anyone amongst you who doesn't think Bas Rutten is one of the most awesome guys in MMA?

The casual fan doesn't generally know who Rutten is, as he hasn't fought in the UFC since 1999, but everyone who knows who Rutten is knows how awesome he is.

Rutten has an entire series on how to come out on top in a bar fight. Look it up on YouTube. It's worth it.

4. You Have at Least One Favorite Fighter in Every Weight Class

4 of 10

You have a favorite fighter in every weight class.

For now, I'm only talking about the bantamweight, featherweight, lightweight, welterweight, middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions, although the super diehard fans may have a favorite flyweight or super heavyweight fighter.

Of course, for your favorite fighter, you must also have...

5. You Have a Least Favorite Fighter

5 of 10

Now of course, I'm a journalist and probably shouldn't make it well known what fighters I like or dislike.

Thus, I won't say anything, but I believe a picture says a thousand words.

Every diehard fan out there has to have a least favorite fighter; otherwise, who's there to root against?

6. You Watch Bellator When UFC Isn't On

6 of 10

Or, even if UFC is on, you'll flick back and forth between the two.

Bellator is another MMA organization and is now the best MMA organization not owned by Zuffa.

The next time there is a Bellator event not running against a UFC card will be on November 26.

Will you be watching?

7. You Have Taken a Class in One or More of the Following Disciplines

7 of 10

BJJ, judo, wrestling, boxing, kickboxing or Muay Thai.

Those six disciplines are the six main forms of martial arts most common inside the cage.

Of course, there are many other types, but for the most part many guys train in a mix of those six arts.

Many diehard fans train in at least one of these arts, but even if you just take a class, it's more than many casual fans can say.

8. You Can Name Three Ring Girls, Past or Present

8 of 10

Brittney Palmer, Arianny Celeste, Chandella Powell, Rachelle Leah, Edith Labelle, Logan Stanton...

Just a few of the UFC ring girls—and if you can name three or more of them, you may be a diehard MMA fan.

Or maybe I just wanted to find a sneaky way to fill my quota of every slideshow needing a little Brittney.

9. You Own at Least Two Articles of MMA Clothing

9 of 10

Well, yes, there are the guys out there that buy TapouT clothing and have no idea what MMA is or who any of the fighters are.

But if you do own two articles of MMA clothing, it could be a sign that you are a diehard MMA fan.

Or it could not.

10. You Were Upset When Mirko Cro Cop Retired

10 of 10

As the most recent legend to retire (I'm not so sure about BJ Penn yet), Cro Cop gets the nod, but this slide encompasses any legend.

If you were upset when Randy Couture, Chuck Liddell or any of the other fighters retired, you may be a diehard MMA fan.

Even if you just hated watching Cro Cop lose to Roy Nelson, Chuck Liddell lose to Rich Franklin or Randy Couture lose to Lyoto Machida, you may be a diehard MMA fan.
